One-half of the cotton was defoliated and harvested before frost using two spindle-type pickers in a once-over operation on October 25, 1974. The remaining one-half was harvested by brush stripper after frost between November 1 and December 3, 1974. The prolonged harvest period was a result of constant rains that prevented operation of the stripper except for short periods.
