Materials Chemistry at High Temperatures
Author: John W. Hastie
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 558
Book Description
The role of chemistry in materials processing and performance, at high temperatures, is a key area in today's technology. High temperature chemistry-the combination of inorganic chemistry with high temperatures-has undergone dramatic growth within the past 50 years. The papers in Materials Chemistry at High Temperatures highlight, in two outstanding volumes, the latest information and techniques in this fast-paced field. Essential reading for anyone involved in this innovative technology!

Conference Overview and the Role of Chemistry in High-Temperature Materials Science and Technology LEO BREWER Department of ChemistIy, University of California, and Materials and Chemical Sciences Division, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, 1 Cyclotron Road, Berkeley, CA 94720 I don't want to compete with the fascinating historic account that John Drowart gave us, but I would like to go through the history of high don't get the reaction that I get from temperature symposia. I hope I some of my classes when I say, "Remember when such-and-such hap pened during the War?" And I get this blank look, and one of the students will say, "I wasn't born until after the Korean War. " Neverthe less, during World War II, many people in the high-temperature field had their first initiation. But there was one handicap. Owing to security measures, they were not able to interact with one another. Following the War, it was recognized that the high-temperature field was going to expand to meet the demands for materials with unique properties. To meet the demands for new fabrication techniques, it was important to establish better communications among various people. High-tempera ture symposia were established at that time and have continued very frequently, and I'd like to point out why they are especially important for this field. One problem is that it is not easy to work at high temperatures.

High Temperature Properties and Thermal Decomposition of Inorganic Salts with Oxyanions
Author: Kurt H. Stern
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849302565
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 30
Book Description
Twenty years ago author Kurt Stern produced four monographs for the National Bureau of Standards on the high-temperature properties of inorganic salts containing oxyanions. Although relied upon by scientists and engineers around the world, these monographs have now become increasingly difficult to access and increasingly outdated. High Temperature Properties and Thermal Decomposition of Inorganic Salts with Oxyanions unifies, expands upon, and brings up-to-date those standard-setting documents. It offers both qualitative and quantitative information on the behavior and properties of approximately 300 compounds, complete with thermodynamic tables of decomposition equilibria and information regarding decomposition kinetics. For each class of compounds, an existence chart in the form of a periodic table tells you at a glance which compounds are known to exist, those whose existence is uncertain, and those about which nothing is known. Supplementary tables give information about phase transitions and densities in both solid and liquid phases. Within this single volume, the author provides a comprehensive, critical review of the high-temperature properties of all the major classes of inorganic salts with oxyanions. If you work with materials or processes that involve salts at elevated temperatures, you now have an authoritative resource that obviates the need to perform extensive literature searches, data evaluations, and thermodynamic calculations-and saves you time.
