The successful manner in which the Author has combined his own system with that of Hartmann is, in itself, a prominent feature, and especially worthy of remark. It could have been no easy matter to have completed the labours of another under such circum stances, but this Dr. J ahr has, as it is generally thought, fully accomplished. It is the only work hitherto pub lished on the homopathic treatment of mental diseases, and it is trusted that it will be found an excellent guide in practice. With regard to the Translation, every pains has been taken to render the meaning of the Author as literally, and, at the same time, as clearly as possible, and while errors may, doubtless, be observed, it is hoped that they are neither of a nature to interfere with its utility, nor such as indulgent critics may not overlook. I sincerely regret its late appearance, which has arisen from circumstances in themselves wholly unavoidable.
