Solar Energy Education

Solar Energy Education PDF Author: Kevin O'Connor
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 6

Book Description
The purpose of this paper is to examine in detail the contents of the Education Data Base by analyzing the current distributions of solar energy courses, programs, and curricula offered in our nation's post-secondary educational institutions. Information on solar offereings was obtained through a cooperative effort of the Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI) and the Office of U.S. Congressman George E. Brown, Jr. Congressman Brown's Office was responsible for the conduct of the survey, while SERI agreed to be the repository of the data which was collected and was responsible for the creation of the Education Data Base by coding and verifying the returned survey forms and processing the data into the computerized data base. A summary indicates that 892 educational institutions in the U.S. offer 2308 solar-related courses and 367 programs. This is an increase over 1979, when 760 institutions offered 1740 solar-related courses and 243 programs.

Solar Story

Solar Story PDF Author: Allan Drummond
Publisher: Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)
ISBN: 1250780977
Category : Juvenile Nonfiction
Languages : en
Pages : 21

Book Description
In his signature style, Allan Drummond tells the story of the largest solar plant in the world, the Noor Solar Power Plant in Morocco's Sahara Desert, in Solar Story—by relating it to the everyday life of a schoolgirl in a small village next to the plant. As we see on a class field trip, the plant is not only bringing reliable power to the village and far beyond, but is providing jobs, changing lives, and upending the old ways of doing things—starting within the girl's own family. Blending detail-filled watercolors, engaging cartoon-style narration, in-depth sidebars, and an afterword, the author showcases another real-world community going green in amazing ways. A “powerful” addition to the author’s acclaimed series about conservation and renewable energy innovations in everyday life.

The Solar Economy

The Solar Economy PDF Author: Hermann Scheer
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136547622
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 368

Book Description
The global economy and our way of life are based on the exploitation of fossil fuels, which not only threaten massive environmental and social disruption through global warming but, at present rates of consumption, will run out within decades, causing huge industrial dislocation and economic collapse. Even before then, the conflicts it causes in the Middle East and elsewhere will be frighteningly exacerbated. The alternative exists: renewable energy from renewable sources - above all, solar. Substituting renewable for fossil resources will take a new industrial revolution to avert the worst of the damage and establish a new international order. It can be done, and it can be done in time. The Solar Economy, by one of the world's most effective analysts and advocates, lays out the blueprints, showing how the political, economic and technological challenges can be met using indigenous, renewable and universally available resources, and the enormous opportunities and benefits that will flow from doing so.
