Solar Collectors

Solar Collectors PDF Author: Martín Picón-Núñez

ISBN: 9781536131215
Category : Solar collectors

Book Description
This book is intended to provide an engineering point of view and the design tools for low temperature solar collectors, as well as their networks in large solar installations for the integration of solar energy in processing industries. To this end, the book covers the description of existing solar technology, performance enhancement techniques for single units, hydrodynamics and its influence on flow distribution inside tubes, its effect upon thermal efficiency and pressure drop profiles. A detailed graphical description of the thermo-hydraulic behavior using experimentally validated Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations are described. An important contribution is the introduction of the main concepts to design and specify the structure of solar collector networks based on the reconciliation of the thermal and hydraulic lengths. The thermal performance is analyzed as a function of the velocity of the fluid and its relation to the rate of heat transfer. Likewise, velocity is analyzed in connection to the pressure drop. This approach allows the engineer to determine the structure of a solar collector network, which is defined by two parameters: the number of parallel sets of collectors and the number of collectors per set to achieve the process thermal needs at the specified temperature within the limitations of the pressure drop. These tools are put forward within the frame of flexible plant operation.

Solar Energy

Solar Energy PDF Author: Jeffrey M. Gordon
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1134275897
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 846

Book Description
It is rare that a book draws together the knowledge and experience of scientists, each a world leader in his or her discipline, to create a work that presents the state of the art in a field as rich and diverse as solar energy. In Solar Energy - the State of the Art this aim has been achieved. The book comprises twelve individual chapters, each dedicated to one of the major solar energy sub-disciplines and authored by an internationally recognised expert in the field. Areas covered range from solar radiation and meteorology, solar collectors and concentrators, solar energy and the built environment, to solar thermal electricity, photovoltaics, wind energy and the potential cost of ignoring solar energy resources. The papers examine the technology and field in question, discuss the rudiments and major applications, review the current science and technology and explore the remaining challenges for the future. Solar Energy - the State of the Art is an essential reference work for all solar energy practitioners, students, researchers and engineers wishing to gain a broad-based understanding of the theory, technology, applications and issues surrounding the broad, interdisciplinary field of solar energy. The book will form an important component of any library's solar energy holding and will be of particular benefit as an academic reference, as well as being of practical value to professionals who wish to gain a clear understanding of the concepts required to move forward in this field. Published with ISES.

Research on Solar Collector

Research on Solar Collector PDF Author: Loreto Valenzuela
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3039364219
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 212

Book Description
The use of concentrated solar technologies has grown significantly worldwide in the last decade but the research and development of this renewable energy technology still needs to be advanced to guarantee its competitiveness with other energy sources. Challenges remain with reducing costs, optimizing the systems design, and increasing the performance and durability of the systems. This Special Issue on research on solar collectors presents some recent developments and studies on tracking-solar collectors for medium- to high-temperature applications, both line- and point-focus systems, conceived for the supply of heat in industrial processes, to provide thermal energy to a power block for electricity production, or even to combine heat and electricity generation in a solar collector unit (CPV/T). The articles included in this Special Issue cover theoretical or practical issues on geometrics optics, thermal–hydraulic modelling, and performance analysis, focusing on the following topics:• Solar towers: heliostat fields analysis and optimization• Solar towers: heat transfer media studies• Parabolic troughs: evacuated solar receivers analysis and thermal–hydraulic modelling• Fresnel reflectors: geometrics optics and manufacturing issues• Fresnel lens in CPV• Energy losses in solar collectors systems
