Book Description
Excerpt from Use the Land and Save the Soil The Soil Conservation Service is organized especially to give the most help possible to soil conservation districts. It has an office, usually called a work-unit, in each soil conservation district that has requested aid. In some of the larger districts it has more than one work-unit. A soil conservationist, commonly called a farm planner, is in charge of each work-unit. He may have special assistants; that depends on the amount of work and whether there are some special forestry, engineering, or other problems that require the services of a specialist in that field. The farm planner and his assistants spend most of their time helping farmers develop conservation plans for their entire farms, and [putting the plans into effect. Use of Power Driven Soil Resistance Recorder for Study of Compaction of Soils by Tractors (Classic Reprint)

Use of Power Driven Soil Resistance Recorder for Study of Compaction of Soils by Tractors (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Irvin Fay Reed
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781528520690

Pages : 20

Book Description
Excerpt from Use of Power Driven Soil Resistance Recorder for Study of Compaction of Soils by Tractors In studying the data obtained with any type of unit that measures the soil condition by its resistance to penetration, a true measure of conditions is not indicated until a uniform layer of soil is encountered. Thus if the lug equipment compacts the soil behind the lugs, then breaks this area loose to form a compacted olod, the compactness of this olod is not measured. This could probably be done only by careful apparent specific gravity determination for these clods. The data obtained with the resistance recorder indicates the packing effects produced in the area below that loosened by the lug equipment.
