This is certainly an interesting piece of literature. If you have a weak stomach, or do not have a taste for the twisted and unusual, I would not recommend reading it. The book was actually written with his wife, Rose Edith Kelly, in mind. She had a love of erotica, so Crowley decided to write Snowdrops. Only, this is not your ordinary piece of erotica. It is actually one of the most disgusting things I've ever read. But, that makes it worth reading to me. No one has used language and idea in such a context that Crowley uses in this book. It may turn your stomach, but it is certainly worth reading. If for no other reason, to see what kind of bizarre things this brilliant man could write. The first section, The Nameless Novel, was written primarily to amuse Crowley's convalescing wife, Rose Kelly. A scatological parody of erotic literature, it takes aim at the usual targets of libertine fiction and modern erotica but, at the same time, lampoons their (libertine fiction and erotica's) limitations and conventions through absurdity and hyperbole.
