Book Description
The need for transformational change in leadership is great and the urgency is even greater! The world is waiting for brave and bold leaders to take the risks of leading in different and people-focused ways. The question is not whether new leadership is needed, but whether you'll be one of these new leaders. Snow Globe Leadership: Shaken Not Settled, written by five-time bestselling author amplifies the need for disruptive leadership, this disruption requires the types and nature of snow globe shaking. "I love the metaphor in Snow Globe Leadership, Shaken Not Settled. Jeff teaches us that the real magic in life and in our organizations is in the shaking - not staying stagnant and content but pushing ourselves to constantly view our relationships and ourselves differently. Read this book and sprinkle some of this magic on those that we love and serve." - Tommy Spaulding, New York Times Bestselling Author of The Gift of Influence and The Heart-Led Leader "Jeff Nischwitz makes a brilliant case for shaking things up in his new book, Snow Globe Leadership. Since we've all experienced months of uncertainty, worry and constant pivots, the timing for his book couldn't be better. He shares substantive commentary on why today's leaders need to adjust the way they think and work. He also offers some satisfying strategies for determining where to start and how to reap the benefits of constant personal and professional evolution. I look forward to recommending this book to leaders who are ready to shake things up and transform their potential for success." - Sara Canaday, Leadership Expert, Keynote Speaker & Award-Winning Author (www.SaraCanaday.com) "We're navigating challenging times and changes in business that demand a new approach to leadership, and Jeff Nischwitz's Snow Globe Leadership delivers just the leadership disruption we need. Much like the shifts offered in my book Transfluence, Jeff encourages leaders to embrace vulnerability, authenticity and empathy as leadership superpowers in order to build trust, nurture cultures and grow businesses. - Walter Rakowich, Business Leader, Former CEO of Prologis & Author of Transfluence: How to Lead with Transformative Influence in Today's Climates of Change About the Author: Over the past 37 years, Jeff Nischwitz professional, business and entrepreneurial path has been quite the journey. Beginning as a successful lawyer, he left the corporate law firm where he was a partner to take the leap into entrepreneurship by creating his own law firm. Jeff is the Founder and Chief Snow Globe Shaker of The Nischwitz Group, an organization created in 2012 with a simple mission - transform leaders and leadership to create a more conscious, intentional and positive impact in organizations, teams, families, communities and lives. The Ellis Island Snow Globe
Author: Erica Rand
Publisher: Duke University Press
ISBN: 0822387425
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 359
Book Description
In The Ellis Island Snow Globe, Erica Rand, author of the smart and entertaining book Barbie’s Queer Accessories, takes readers on an unconventional tour of Ellis Island, the migration station turned heritage museum, and its neighbor, the Statue of Liberty. By pausing to reflect on what is and is not on display at these two iconic national monuments, Rand focuses attention on whose heritage is honored and whose obscured. She also reveals the shifting connections between sex, money, material products, and ideas of the nation in everything from the ostensible father-mother-child configuration on an Ellis Island golf ball purchased at the gift shop to the multi-million dollar July 4, 1986 Liberty Weekend extravaganza celebrating the Statue’s centennial just days after the Supreme Court’s un-Libertylike decision upholding the antisodomy laws challenged in Bowers v. Hardwick. Rand notes that portrayals of the Statue of Liberty as a beacon for immigrants tend to suppress the Statue’s connections to people brought to this country by force. She examines what happened to migrants at Ellis Island whose bodies did not match the gender suggested by the clothing they wore. In light of contemporary ideas about safety and security, she examines the “Decide an Immigrant’s Fate” program, which has visitors to Ellis Island act as a 1910 board of inspectors hearing the appeal of an immigrant about to be excluded from the country. Rand is a witty, insightful, and open-minded tour guide, able to synthesize numerous diverse ideas—about tourism, immigration history, sexuality, race, ethnicity, commodity culture, and global capitalism—and to candidly convey her delight in her Ellis Island snow globe. And pen. And lighter. And back scratcher. And golf ball. And glittery pink key chain.

Educational Leadership and Critical Theory
Author: Charles L. Lowery
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1350353434
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 267
Book Description
This book shows how critical theory can help school leaders and administrators to prepare students for the ever-changing political, cultural, economic, and societal conditions of the world. The contributors use ideas from critical theorists including Adorno, Fromm, Marcuse and Habermas and connect them with contemporary theories and debates in educational leadership from moral education to critical theories on race, to culturally relevant practice. Educational Leadership and Critical Theory challenges the misconceptions of many present-day educators about the analytical lens offered by the Frankfurt School theorists which is often dismissed by policymakers and practitioners. Written by leading scholars based in the UK, USA, and Canada, the contributors emphasize and explain the importance of educational aesthetics, dialectics, education and civilization, the structural transformation of education's place in the public sphere, and education as revolution and enlightenment.

Leadership, Organizational Change and Sensemaking
Author: Ronald Skea
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000396851
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 177
Book Description
Organizational change literature often focuses on the leaders role in giving sense to others of the need for change and there is a plethora of models and recipes on how to influence employees thinking about change, organizational design and performance. Notwithstanding this ready supply of advice, research has shown that up to 90% of change programs fail to deliver their expected outcomes. One of the reasons for this which has been neglected in the literature is that successful change in thinking starts with how leaders first make sense of the need for change and the challenges this poses to their own thinking. This book surfaces the elements behind leader sensemaking that add to or detract from their ability to critically question their current thinking. Leaders and interventionists have lacked practical and pragmatic advice on how to influence the process. This book is the culmination of 10 years of research spent working with leaders in organizations as they interpreted the need for change and made choices about engaging, or not, with transformational change methodologies. It reveals nine elements of sensemaking displayed by organizational leaders as they grapple with challenges to their current orthodoxies about how to lead and organize in times of change. The book shows the latest state of knowledge on the topic and will be of interest to researchers, academics, practitioners, and students in the fields of leadership, change, and organisational development.

Book Description
It's a Wonderful Life meets Groundhog Day in USA Today bestselling author Annie Rains' new novel, as a woman dangerously close to losing it all receives an unexpected Christmas gift that prompts a surprising journey of self-discovery . . . and another chance at happiness. What if you could have one more day with someone you lost? Diana Merriman, a physical therapist, is probably the only person in the small town of Snow Haven, North Carolina, who isn't looking forward to Christmas. It's been three weeks since her fiancé Linus was critically injured when a car hit him as he biked home from the toy store he owns and manages. Watching him open his eyes is the only gift she wants, but she can't help losing a little more hope every day. But an unexpected visit from a friendly neighbor and finding a snow globe of Snow Haven--a gift Linus had hidden in the closet--the night before Christmas Eve changes things in ways Diana never would have imagined. Because on Christmas Eve Diana wakes up to find that it's not--Christmas Eve, that is. Instead, it's somehow December 4 all over again, the day Linus got hurt, and as mystified as Diana is, she immediately starts a plan to save her partner from his fate. Nothing is that simple, of course. Instead of a single repeat of that day, Diana finds herself in an endless loop of December 4, experiencing every possible variation of events. Along the way, she uncovers startling truths about herself, her relationship, and even her career that illustrate the ways she's retreated from her life--and in the face of life's slights and outright blows, from her deepest feelings. Suddenly hope is second only to joy as Diana opens her heart to the people she loves in every way she can.

Tours Inside the Snow Globe
Author: Tonya K. Davidson
Publisher: Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press
ISBN: 1771126043
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 389
Book Description
The toppling of monuments globally in the last few years has highlighted the potency of monuments as dynamic and affectively loaded participants in society. In the context of Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, monuments inspire colonial and imperial nostalgia, compelling visitors to consistently re-imagine Canada as a white, Anglophone nation, built through the labour of white men: politicians, soldiers, and businessmen. At the same time, Ottawa monuments allow for dominant affective relationships to the nation to be challenged, demonstrated through subtle and explicit forms of defacement and other interactions that compel us to remember colonial violence, pacifism, violence against women, racisms. Organized as a series of walking tours throughout Ottawa, the chapters in Tours Inside the Snow Globe demonstrate the affective capacities of monuments and highlight how these monuments have ongoing relationships with their sites, the city, other monuments, and local, deliberate, national, and casual communities of users. The tours focus on the lives of a monument to an unnamed Indigenous scout, the National War Memorial, Enclave: the Women’s Monument, and the Canadian Tribute to Human Rights. Two of the tours offer analyses of the ambivalent representations of women and Indigeneity in Ottawa’s statue landscape.
