Jungle Comics #100

Jungle Comics #100 PDF Author: Kari Therrian
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781548460938
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 54

Book Description
JUNGLE COMICS #100The main character associated with the title is Kaanga. He appeared in every issue of Jungle Comics. When Kaanga was a child his parents died in the jungle and he was raised by apes. The reader never gets to know his real name or his ancestry, but the jungle is where Kaanga feels most at home. In the first issue Kaanga meets his mate Ann, who is a Jane clone, after he rescues her from a white slave trader named Bill Blackton. Ann then joins Kaanga in his jungle existence. After nearly ten years Kaanga was given his own title in Spring, 1949. This ran for 20 issues until the Summer of 1954. One of the reasons for the series demise was the formation of The Comics Code Authority, a self-regulatory body that was formed because of moral concerns about the contents of many of the comics of the time. As much of Fiction House's material involved images of scantily clad women they withdrew from the market. You can enjoy again - or for the first time - JUNGLE COMICS #100 with this public domain reprint from GOLDEN AGE REPRINTS. Check out the full line - new titles every week! Four Years in Paradise

Four Years in Paradise PDF Author: Osa Johnson
Publisher: Sisters of the Hunt
ISBN: 9780811731300
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
"For Osa, too, these years, from 1924 to 1927, were an especially significant period. After seven years of touring the vaudeville circuit, and seven more of exploring the South Seas and Borneo with occasional lecture tours worked in stateside to raise more capital, the Johnsons' complex at Lake Paradise was the first relatively permanent home the coup had had since that little flat they started out in back in Independence. Osa not only brought all her Kansas skills to bear on turning her Kenya house into a home, she also was largely responsible for managing the roughly two hundred "boys" needed to build the place and keep it running, as well as for organizing the several safaris the Johnsons undertook in the course of those years. When they were on safari (a term which incidentally, the Johnsons introduced to the American lexicon), whenever she was not involved in filming--either providing rifle cover for Martin or performing her own star turn in front of the camera, Osa was hunting and fishing to provide meat for the entire entourage." - May Zeiss Stange "For bravery and steadiness and endurance, Osa is the equal of any man I ever saw. She is a woman through and through. There is nothing 'mannish' about her. Yet as a comrade in the wilderness she is better than any man I ever saw." -- Martin Johnson.

The Gnu's World

The Gnu's World PDF Author: Richard Estes
Publisher: Univ of California Press
ISBN: 0520273184
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 368

Book Description
This is the first scholarly book on the antelope that dominates the savanna ecosystems of eastern and southern Africa. It presents a synthesis of research conducted over a span of fifty years, mainly on the wildebeest in the Ngorongoro and Serengeti ecosystems, where eighty percent of the worldÕs wildebeest population lives. Wildebeest and other grazing mammals drive the ecology and evolution of the savanna ecosystem. Richard D. Estes describes this process and also details the wildebeestÕs life history, focusing on its social organization and unique reproductive system, which are adapted to the animalÕs epic annual migrations. He also examines conservation issues that affect wildebeest, including range-wide population declines.

Cryptid Tourism

Cryptid Tourism PDF Author: Sara Brooke Christian
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 1476650179
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 221

Book Description
Monster hunting is more than just going out into the woods or hanging out in graveyards. The history and performance of monster hunting, from Alexander the Great to scientific expeditions of the Victorian era, can lead us directly to modern-day Bigfoot searches. Combining methods of scientific exploration with aspects of tourism theory demonstrates how monster-hunting is performative and, through an analysis tool called The Cryptid Tourist Gaze, this book examines how and why we go looking for monsters and the ways in which small towns celebrate the monsters that once haunted them. By looking at specific museums such as The North American Bigfoot Center and Expedition Bigfoot: The Sasquatch Museum as well as various festivals and conferences such as The Mothman Festival and the UFO Festival in Roswell, we can witness the ways modern monster-hunting practices are performed and see how much they have evolved from their predecessors. Through themes of liminality, community, and initiation, the performance of monster hunting through cryptid tourism allows both participants and observers to gain insight into why looking for monsters, proving their existence, and sharing experiences with other believers is so important.
