Development of a telemetry system for monitoring piston characteristics inside combustion engines

Development of a telemetry system for monitoring piston characteristics inside combustion engines PDF Author: Paul Lagaly
Publisher: Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH
ISBN: 3832582665
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 128

Book Description
This project aimed to develop a compact and lightweight telemetry system that mechanically decouples measurements, enabling versatile applications across different measurement scenarios, particularly for pistons and other moving systems. Utilizing an ESP8266, a printed circuit board design was created from individually tested integrated circuits, which formed the foundation for measuring various physical variables. Given the challenging conditions inside a piston of an internal combustion engine, ensuring high robustness was paramount during the electrical engineering process to prevent failures due to high temperatures and acceleration levels. Alongside the installation process for thermocouples, software for energy-efficient measurement with customizable resolution and optional transmission via Wi-Fi or internal storing was developed. Demonstrating feasibility during full-load operation of a heavy-duty diesel engine, the telemetry system with a high-resolution surface thermocouple was integrated in one piston to establish a method for assigning crank angles, enabling measurement and transmission of surface temperatures with crank angle resolution. Further series of measurements, including the use of alternative fuels, were conducted with a third piston, expanding the findings. The outcome is an innovative telemetry measurement device capable of recording experimental data from moving components, potentially expediting market solutions by reducing development times.

A Handbook on Biotelemetry and Radio Tracking

A Handbook on Biotelemetry and Radio Tracking PDF Author: Charles J. Amlaner
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483189317
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 825

Book Description
A Handbook on Biotelemetry and Radio Tracking presents the proceedings of an International Conference on Telemetry and Radio Tracking in Biology and Medicine, held in The University of Oxford, Oxford, U.K. on March 20–22, 1979. This book illustrates the advances connected with every aspect of biotelemetry and radio tracking. Organized into five parts encompassing 101 chapters, this compilation of papers begins with an overview of the method that allows assessment or control of biological parameters from animals, subjects, and patients with comparatively little disturbance and restraint. This text then examines radio telemetry as a system for telemetry or communications over great distances. Other chapters consider better transmitter design and construction of radio tracking. This book discusses as well telemetric measurements of hemodynamic response to driving in coronary patients. The final chapter deals with the study of the coastal movements of Atlantic salmon tagged with ultrasonic transmitters. This book is a valuable resource for biological researchers and ecologists.

Options for Remote Monitoring and Control of Small Drinking Water Facilities

Options for Remote Monitoring and Control of Small Drinking Water Facilities PDF Author: Albert J. Pollack
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Juvenile Nonfiction
Languages : en
Pages : 332

Book Description
This book provides information to select, design, and implement remote telemetry supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for use with various water treatment systems. The book also contains information on the sensitivity and reliability of various techniques for remote monitoring and control as well as transmittance and receiving of electronic information. The book will be especially valuable to those responsible for the approximately 190,000 small drinking water treatment systems throughout the United States. Communities being served by small treatment systems often do not have the resources to support qualified operators for their systems. Options outlined in the book for remote monitoring and control provide a mechanism for individuals to understand, select, design, and evaluate emerging technologies in water quality monitoring, process control, data acquisition, and data transmitting/receiving. Implementing selected options could significantly reduce the cost of operating a treatment system, thereby bringing safe drinking water within reach of small communities. In addition to the in-depth discussion of water quality and remote monitoring technologies, the book includes information on water quality regulations and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) devices for water quality monitoring, process control, data acquisition, and data transmitting/receiving.
