Charles Simeon of Cambridge

Charles Simeon of Cambridge PDF Author: Hugh Evan Hopkins
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1610978137
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 241

Book Description
Charles Simeon ministered for over fifty years in one parish at the heart of Cambridge during the bleak period of English national life between the French Wars and the passing of the Reform Bill. He was considered by Lord Macaulay to have had greater influence on the life of the church than any primate. Soundly converted in his first term at King's College, he was appointed Vicar of Holy Trinity in 1782, combining the incumbency with a Fellowship and various academic posts. Highly unpopular at first on account of both his message and his manner, scorned and abused for many years, he carried on regardless of other's opinions until in the end he became perhaps the best known and best respected name in Cambridge. Hot-tempered but warm-hearted, impetuous but infinitely patient, a man of imposing, even remarkable appearance, he was a "character," about whom the most entertaining stories are eagerly recounted. As a Christian of independent mind and strong convictions, he found his spiritual strength in a lifetime of deep devotion and strict personal discipline; as a biblical preacher he was the first for many generations to see the possibility and importance of teaching others how to expound the Scriptures; as a pastor and evangelist his work with both town and gown was marked by a rare faithfulness and zeal. Limited all his life to the one center of spiritual activity, he yet was the moving spirit in the formation of the Church Missionary Society, and an enthusiastic supporter of the Bible Society and of work among the Jews.

Lead Like a Shepherd

Lead Like a Shepherd PDF Author: Larry Osborne
Publisher: HarperChristian + ORM
ISBN: 0718096428
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 190

Book Description
Pastor, author, and leadership consultant unpacks instruction for church leaders found in 1 Peter 5:1-4 where they are exhorted to shepherd the flock among them. Some instruction is timeless. Regardless of the age in which we live, certain instruction carries no expiration on its relevance. Pastor, author, and leadership consultant, Larry Osborne has discovered this to be the case with instruction on how to be a good leader. The best, most practical advice comes from the Bible, and in particular, 1 Peter 5:1-4. It's in this short passage where leaders are exhorted to shepherd the flock among them. Unfortunately, most modern leaders have precious little experience tending sheep, and many of the implications that were well understood when Peter penned these words are lost on today's reader. Osborne finds the parallels to be numerous, well-worth reviewing and understanding anew. A shepherd leads them to water even when they fear it. A shepherd never allows one sick lamb to destroy the flock. A shepherd lays down his life for his sheep . . . When leaders truly understand Peter's words of exhortation to lead like a shepherd, then they will begin to see the path that leads them to Leading Well.

A Tender Shepherd

A Tender Shepherd PDF Author: Rosemond Opare-Kumi
Publisher: Partridge Publishing Singapore
ISBN: 1543763286
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 210

Book Description
Tender shepherding is the ultimate expectation of the Lord from shepherds who take care of His lambs and sheep. He is looking for tender shepherds everywhere including personal homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and in the church. Will you answer the call? Believers in Christ Jesus are making disciples as a sure proof of their love for Him but tender shepherding which is the ordained means appears to be somewhat in crisis. It is in this regard that “A Tender Shepherd” is a voice in time to ignite the tender shepherding spirit that inhabits believers. Tenderness is a significant power chip of the Treasure that resides in believers of Jesus Christ without a doubt. It is the undeniable power that is relevant for the world today. As this power becomes increasingly recognizable and used daily by believers in Christ Jesus for tender shepherding, transformation of lives will begin to be more visible and apparent in homes, families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and indeed in all spheres of human life. The world cannot deny their thirst for transformed lives in every sphere of life and hence the demand for tender shepherds. This is the kind of shepherding that pleases the Lord and proven to be effective for His purposes in reconciling the world to Himself. In this book you will find: • Heaven’s perspective on shepherding • The shepherding blue- print of Jesus Christ and illustrations; those that marked His discipleship and became His brand; discipleship by tenderness and love • The central purpose of shepherding for the fulfillment of the Great Commission • examples for the church from the Apostles who had first-hand and best taste of Jesus’ discipleship. • A hypothetical classification of churches based on shepherd types and suggestions for introspection and • Shepherding in other spheres of life The author considers tender shepherding one of the surest means of responding to Jesus’ command of making disciples of all nations as the day of reckoning draws near. When He will say to each tender shepherd: COME YOU BLESSED OF MY FATHER, INHERIT THE KINGDOM PREPARED FOR YOU FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD.

Shepherding

Shepherding PDF Author: Stephen Kaung
Publisher: Christian Fellowship Publishers
ISBN: 1937713091
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 106

Book Description
Shepherding is one of the important functions in the church. It is not only one of the gifted people whom God gives to the church for the perfecting of the saints (see Ephesians 4:11-12 where pastors should be shepherds) It is also one of the main functions of the elders of the church (see I Peter 5:1). Indeed, it is expected of all the spiritual members of the church to be engaged in such a work. Our Lord’s words to Peter were “feed my lambs”, “shepherd my sheep”, and “feed my sheep” (see John 21:15-17). For this reason, it is required of us to know what the functions of shepherding are and also the qualifications. This series of three messages on shepherding is prepared for the promoting of God’s work and the strengthening of this important but sadly lacking ministry in the church. May God use it for His glory.
