Shakespeare y sus traductores

Shakespeare y sus traductores PDF Author: Juan Jesús Zaro
Publisher: Peter Lang
ISBN: 9783039114542
Category : Drama
Languages : es
Pages : 184

Book Description

Shakespeare and the Language of Translation

Shakespeare and the Language of Translation PDF Author: Ton Hoenselaars
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1408179725
Category : Drama
Languages : en
Pages : 308

Book Description
Shakespeare's international status as a literary icon is largely based on his masterful use of the English language, yet beyond Britain his plays and poems are read and performed mainly in translation. Shakespeare and the Language of Translation addresses this apparent contradiction and is the first major survey of its kind. Covering the many ways in which the translation of Shakespeare's works is practised and studied from Bulgaria to Japan, South Africa to Germany, it also discusses the translation of Macbeth into Scots and of Romeo and Juliet into British Sign Language. The collection places renderings of Shakespeare's works aimed at the page and the stage in their multiple cultural contexts, including gender, race and nation, as well as personal and postcolonial politics. Shakespeare's impact on nations and cultures all around the world is increasingly a focus for study and debate. As a result, the international performance of Shakespeare and Shakespeare in translation have become areas of growing popularity for both under- and post-graduate study, for which this book provides a valuable companion.

Shakespeare and the Spanish Comedia

Shakespeare and the Spanish Comedia PDF Author: Bárbara Mujica
Publisher: Bucknell University Press
ISBN: 1611485185
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 310

Book Description
Shakespeare and the Spanish Comedia is a nearly unique transnational study of the theater / performance traditions of early modern Spain and England. Divided into three parts, the book focuses first on translating for the stage, examining diverse approaches to the topic. It asks, for example, whether plays should be translated to sound as if they were originally written in the target language or if their “foreignness” should be maintained and even highlighted. Section II deals with interpretation and considers such issues as uses of polyphony, the relationship between painting and theater, and representations of women. Section III highlights performance issues such as music in modern performances of classical theater and the construction of stage character. Written by a highly respected group of British and American scholars and theater practitioners, this book challenges the traditional divide between the academy and the stage and between one theatrical culture and another.

Migrating Shakespeare

Migrating Shakespeare PDF Author: Janet Clare
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1350103306
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 313

Book Description
Migrating Shakespeare offers the first study of the earliest waves of Shakespeare's migration into Europe. Charting the spread of the reception and production of his plays across the continent, it examines how Shakespeare contributed to national cultures and – in some cases – nation building. The chapters explore the routes and cultural networks through which Shakespeare entered European consciousness, from first translations to stage adaptations and critical response. The role of strolling players and actors, translators and printers, poets and dramatists, is chronicled alongside the larger political and cultural movements shaping nations. Each individual case discloses the national, literary and theatrical issues Shakespeare encountered, revealing not only how cultures have accommodated and adapted Shakespeare on their own terms but their interpretative contribution to the texts. Taken collectively the volume addresses key questions about Shakespeare's naturalization or reluctant accommodation within other cultures, inaugurating his present global reach.
