Who Were the Early Settlers of Maryland
Settlers of Maryland, 1751-1765
Author: Peter Wilson Coldham
Publisher: Clearfield
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 392
Book Description
This penultimate volume in the series of indexes to land grants issued in Maryland contains an alphabetical list (by grantee name) of all 8,500 grants issued in the Province of Maryland between 1751 and 1765. Based on land records at the Hall of Records in Annapolis, it identifies all grants of land made by purchase, a process involving the issuing of warrants, certificates of survey, and patents. From these several documentary sources, Mr. Coldham has been able to assemble a unique record of virtually every land grant made between 1751 and 1765, a period that ushered in the French and Indian War and ended with the imposition of the infamous Stamp Act. Similar in arrangement to the earlier volumes in the series, this one boasts of an index of tract names.

Settlers of Maryland, 1679-1700
Author: Peter Wilson Coldham
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 258
Book Description
"Settlers of Maryland 1679-1700" extends Gust Skordas's renowned "Early Settlers of Maryland" through the last quarter of the 17th century, identifying several thousand immigrants and their colorfully named tracts. Based on the same series of records as Skordas--Land Office books on file at the Hall of Records in Annapolis--the entries in this work are arranged by family name, county, name of tract granted, acreage, date, and reference to original source(s). Tract names often suggest English places familiar to the settler--perhaps places of origin or residence--and they are so many and so various that an index of tract names has been appended to the book.
