A study was made of the reattachment of an incompressible, two-dimensional turbulent jet to an inclined surface in streaming flow, when the main stream is uniform and parallel to the surface. It was found that the flow is uniquely determined by the angle of blowing relative to the surface and the ratio of the jet-to-streaming-flow velocity, and is independent of the jet Reynolds number when the latter exceeds 6000. The width of the slot and the thickness of the upstream boundary layer do not affect the reattachment distance when their respective lengths are small in comparison with the length of the plate downstream of the slot. The flow is sensibly unaffected by the addition of roughness to the plate as long as this covers the entire surface near the separation bubble. Exploratory measurements were also made of the effect of a nonuniform streaming flow with constant adverse pressure gradient. An analysis of the flow for constant pressure is proposed and is used to extend the experimental results to other jet angles. (Author).

A study is reported of the two-dimensional turbulent jet reattachment phenomenon. The flow field between jet exhaust and reattachment has been studied for the case where a plane wall, parallel to the nozzle axis, exists near a jet issuing from the nozzle. The two-dimensional boundary layer equations, including curvature effects, are employed in the analysis and these equations are solved using the method of weighted residuals. The model developed is used to study the location of the reattachment point, the wall pressure distributions, velocity profiles and pressure distributions for the flow field described above. This investigation describes surface pressure distribution, heat transfer, and turbulent flow separation and reattachment on a flat plate with variable ramp angle at Mach numbers averaging 3.66 and 6.30. The freestream Reynold's number varied from 3.33 to 8.34 million per foot for the former case and from 5.243 million to 14.6 million per foot for the latter case. Ramp angle was varied from 0 to 35 degrees for these experiments. Stagnation temperatures averaged 849 degrees Rankine, with wall temperature assumed constant at 535 degrees Rankine for all tests. The knowledge of effective wedge angles and freestream conditions makes it possible to determine shocks so that conditions can be evaluated at all positions on the model.

"This thesis describes a theoretical and experimental investigation of a two-dimensional, turbulent jet flowing, at incompressible speeds, onto a screen placed at right angles to the flow. Five wire screens with square mesh and open area ratios ranging form 0.34 to 0.66 were tested over a range of Reynolds numbers. Attention was focussed on the loss of momentum of the flow through the screen and the subsequent development of the flow downstream. For the screens with relatively large open area ratios, there was a tendency for the jet profiles to return to a self-preserving shape downstream. For the more solid screens, however, the flow tended to develop downstream as two separate diverging jets. [...]" --
