Semiotics Education Experience

Semiotics Education Experience PDF Author:
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9460912257
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
“Semiotics Education Experience” is a collection of fifteen essays edited by Inna Semetsky that explores semiotic approaches to education: semiotics of teaching, learning, and curriculum; educational theory and philosophies of Dewey, Peirce, and Deleuze; education as political semiosis; logic and mathematics; visual signs; semiotics and complexity; semiotics and ethics of the self. This is a landmark collection of cross-disciplinary chapters by international scholars that mark out the appeal and significance of a semiotic approach to education. As Marcel Danesi reminds us in the Foreword, Vygotsky construed learning theory as the science of signs. Semetsky’'-s collection should be widely read by students and scholars in education, philosophy, futures studies, cultural studies, and related disciplines. It deserves the widest dissemination. Michael A Peters, Professor, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Editor, Educational Philosophy & Theory and Policy Futures in Education

Social Psychology of Pictures

Social Psychology of Pictures PDF Author: Pascal Moliner
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 152754785X
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 137

Book Description
We see and represent our social environment not as it is, but as we believe it to be. This is the thesis defended in this book, supported by conceptual elements and illustrated by numerous examples drawn from anthropology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology and social psychology. These examples show that people sharing different beliefs about the same object produce different images of that object (such as drawings or photos), and highlight that such people interpret the same image of this object differently. Finally, they show that, when these people communicate through images, they find it difficult to understand each other. On the basis of these observations, the book proposes a psychosocial theory of the link between beliefs and iconography. This book is mainly intended for students and researchers in the humanities and social sciences, interested in the problematic of images. However, it will also be of interest to communication practitioners and the general public.

Theory of Performing Arts

Theory of Performing Arts PDF Author: André Helbo
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing
ISBN: 9027279004
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 163

Book Description
n recent years, the post structuralist theories seem to have created a split in theatrological research. But, as André Helbo analyses in this book , a dialectic theory of the semiotic and the symbolic exchange bring to light a specific paradigm. From his wide experience as a semiotician and a theatrologist, the author has developed an analysis for the theory of spectacle. Focusing his study on a critical theory of the performing arts, and examining the fundamental controversies, he then offers new perspectives and new instruments of analysis: the social aspects, readability/visibility, coherence, the spectacle contract.
