Alkane Functionalization

Alkane Functionalization PDF Author: Armando J. L. Pombeiro
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 111937880X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 680

Book Description
Presents state-of-the-art information concerning the syntheses of valuable functionalized organic compounds from alkanes, with a focus on simple, mild, and green catalytic processes Alkane Functionalization offers a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art of catalytic functionalization of alkanes under mild and green conditions. Written by a team of leading experts on the topic, the book examines the latest research developments in the synthesis of valuable functionalized organic compounds from alkanes. The authors describe the various modes of interaction of alkanes with metal centres and examine theoxidative alkane functionalization upon C-O bond formation. They address the many types of mechanisms, discuss typical catalytic systems and highlight the strategies inspired by biological catalytic systems. The book also describes alkane functionalization upon C-heteroatom bond formation as well as oxidative and non-oxidative approaches. In addition, the book explores non-transition metal catalysts and metal-free catalytic systems and presents selected types of functionalization of sp3 C-H bonds pertaining to substrates other than alkanes. This important resource: Presents a guide to the most recent advances concerning the syntheses of valuable functionalized organic compounds from alkanes Contains information from leading experts on the topic Offers information on the catalytic functionalization of alkanes that allows for improved simplicity and sustainability compared to current multi-stage industrial processes Explores the challenges inherent with the application of alkanes as starting materials for syntheses of added value functionalized organic compounds Written for academic researchers and industrial scientists working in the fields of coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, catalysis, organic synthesis and green chemistry, Alkane Functionalization is an important resource for accessing the most up-to-date information available in the field of catalytic functionalization of alkanes.

Methane Conversion

Methane Conversion PDF Author: D.M. Bibby
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080960707
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 759

Book Description
This proceedings volume comprises the invited plenary lectures, contributed and poster papers presented at a symposium organised to mark the successful inauguration of the world's first commercial plant for production of gasoline from natural gas, based on the Mobil methanol-to-gasoline process. The objectives of the Symposium were to present both fundamental research and engineering aspects of the development and commercialization of gas-to-gasoline processes. These include steam reforming, methanol synthesis and methanol-to-gasoline. Possible alternative processes e.g. MOGD, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis of hydrocarbons, and the direct conversion of methane to higher hydrocarbons were also considered. The papers in this volume provide a valuable and extremely wide-ranging overview of current research into the various options for natural gas conversion, giving a detailed description of the gas-to-gasoline process and plant. Together, they represent a unique combination of fundamental surface chemistry catalyst characterization, reaction chemistry and engineering scale-up and commercialization.

Book Description
Selective oxidation of organic substrates by oxygen, where all 4 oxidizing equivalents are used productively, remains an unsolved problem in catalysis. In an idealized catalytic cycle that could solve this problem, three separate steps are involved: first oxygen must be rapidly bound, then the O-O bond must be cleaved, and finally each oxo ligand needs to react independently with the substrate regenerating the catalyst. The first and last steps were investigated in this research program. Molecular mechanics was used to study the O2 binding step and ab initio electronic structure tools were used to study M-O bonding and the reactivity of M{double_bond}O bonds with methane. Mn and Fe complexes are involved.
