Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data, second edition

Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data, second edition PDF Author: Jeffrey M. Wooldridge
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262232588
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 1095

Book Description
The second edition of a comprehensive state-of-the-art graduate level text on microeconometric methods, substantially revised and updated. The second edition of this acclaimed graduate text provides a unified treatment of two methods used in contemporary econometric research, cross section and data panel methods. By focusing on assumptions that can be given behavioral content, the book maintains an appropriate level of rigor while emphasizing intuitive thinking. The analysis covers both linear and nonlinear models, including models with dynamics and/or individual heterogeneity. In addition to general estimation frameworks (particular methods of moments and maximum likelihood), specific linear and nonlinear methods are covered in detail, including probit and logit models and their multivariate, Tobit models, models for count data, censored and missing data schemes, causal (or treatment) effects, and duration analysis. Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data was the first graduate econometrics text to focus on microeconomic data structures, allowing assumptions to be separated into population and sampling assumptions. This second edition has been substantially updated and revised. Improvements include a broader class of models for missing data problems; more detailed treatment of cluster problems, an important topic for empirical researchers; expanded discussion of "generalized instrumental variables" (GIV) estimation; new coverage (based on the author's own recent research) of inverse probability weighting; a more complete framework for estimating treatment effects with panel data, and a firmly established link between econometric approaches to nonlinear panel data and the "generalized estimating equation" literature popular in statistics and other fields. New attention is given to explaining when particular econometric methods can be applied; the goal is not only to tell readers what does work, but why certain "obvious" procedures do not. The numerous included exercises, both theoretical and computer-based, allow the reader to extend methods covered in the text and discover new insights.

Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 663

Book Description
This volume contains 30 of David Brillinger's most influential papers. He is an eminent statistical scientist, having published broadly in time series and point process analysis, seismology, neurophysiology, and population biology. Each of these areas are well represented in the book. The volume has been divided into four parts, each with comments by one of Dr. Brillinger's former PhD students. His more theoretical papers have comments by Victor Panaretos from Switzerland. The area of time series has commentary by Pedro Morettin from Brazil. The biologically oriented papers are commented by Tore Schweder from Norway and Haiganoush Preisler from USA, while the point process papers have comments by Peter Guttorp from USA. In addition, the volume contains a Statistical Science interview with Dr. Brillinger, and his bibliography.

Probability Theory and Statistical Inference

Probability Theory and Statistical Inference PDF Author: Aris Spanos
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1316946509
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 787

Book Description
Doubt over the trustworthiness of published empirical results is not unwarranted and is often a result of statistical mis-specification: invalid probabilistic assumptions imposed on data. Now in its second edition, this bestselling textbook offers a comprehensive course in empirical research methods, teaching the probabilistic and statistical foundations that enable the specification and validation of statistical models, providing the basis for an informed implementation of statistical procedure to secure the trustworthiness of evidence. Each chapter has been thoroughly updated, accounting for developments in the field and the author's own research. The comprehensive scope of the textbook has been expanded by the addition of a new chapter on the Linear Regression and related statistical models. This new edition is now more accessible to students of disciplines beyond economics and includes more pedagogical features, with an increased number of examples as well as review questions and exercises at the end of each chapter.

Information and Entropy Econometrics

Information and Entropy Econometrics PDF Author: Amos Golan
Publisher: Now Publishers Inc
ISBN: 160198104X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 167

Book Description
Information and Entropy Econometrics - A Review and Synthesis summarizes the basics of information theoretic methods in econometrics and the connecting theme among these methods. The sub-class of methods that treat the observed sample moments as stochastic is discussed in greater details. I Information and Entropy Econometrics - A Review and Synthesis -focuses on inter-connection between information theory, estimation and inference. -provides a detailed survey of information theoretic concepts and quantities used within econometrics and then show how these quantities are used within IEE. -pays special attention for the interpretation of these quantities and for describing the relationships between information theoretic estimators and traditional estimators. Readers need a basic knowledge of econometrics, but do not need prior knowledge of information theory. The survey is self contained and interested readers can replicate all results and examples provided. Whenever necessary the readers are referred to the relevant literature. Information and Entropy Econometrics - A Review and Synthesis will benefit researchers looking for a concise introduction to the basics of IEE and to acquire the basic tools necessary for using and understanding these methods. Applied researchers can use the book to learn improved new methods, and applications for extracting information from noisy and limited data and for learning from these data.

Statistical Methods with Applications to Demography and Life Insurance

Statistical Methods with Applications to Demography and Life Insurance PDF Author: Estáte V. Khmaladze
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1466505737
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 244

Book Description
Suitable for statisticians, mathematicians, actuaries, and students interested in the problems of insurance and analysis of lifetimes, Statistical Methods with Applications to Demography and Life Insurance presents contemporary statistical techniques for analyzing life distributions and life insurance problems. It not only contains traditional material but also incorporates new problems and techniques not discussed in existing actuarial literature. The book mainly focuses on the analysis of an individual life and describes statistical methods based on empirical and related processes. Coverage ranges from analyzing the tails of distributions of lifetimes to modeling population dynamics with migrations. To help readers understand the technical points, the text covers topics such as the Stieltjes, Wiener, and Itô integrals. It also introduces other themes of interest in demography, including mixtures of distributions, analysis of longevity and extreme value theory, and the age structure of a population. In addition, the author discusses net premiums for various insurance policies. Mathematical statements are carefully and clearly formulated and proved while avoiding excessive technicalities as much as possible. The book illustrates how these statements help solve numerous statistical problems. It also includes more than 70 exercises.
