Light on the Landscape

Light on the Landscape PDF Author: William Neill
Publisher: Rocky Nook, Inc.
ISBN: 1681985764
Category : Photography
Languages : en
Pages : 654

Book Description

See the images and read the stories behind the creative process of one of America’s most respected landscape photographers, William Neill.

For more than two decades, William Neill has been offering his thoughts and insights about photography and the beauty of nature in essays that cover the techniques, business, and spirit of his photographic life. Curated and collected here for the first time, these essays are both pragmatic and profound, offering readers an intimate look behind the scenes at Neill’s creative process behind individual photographs as well as a discussion of the larger and more foundational topics that are key to his philosophy and approach to work.

Drawing from the tradition of behind-the-scenes books like Ansel Adams’ Examples: The Making of 40 Photographs and Galen Rowell’s Mountain Light: In Search of the Dynamic Landscape, Light on the Landscape covers in detail the core photographic fundamentals such as light, composition, camera angle, and exposure choices, but it also deftly considers those subjects that are less frequently examined: portfolio development, marketing, printmaking, nature stewardship, inspiration, preparation, self-improvement, and more. The result is a profound and wide-ranging exploration of that magical convergence of light, land, and camera.

Filled with beautiful and inspiring photographs, Light on the Landscape is also full of the kind of wisdom that only comes from a deeply thoughtful photographer who has spent a lifetime communicating with a camera. Incorporating the lessons within the book, you too can learn to achieve not only technically excellent and beautiful images, but photographs that truly rise above your best and reveal your deeply personal and creative perspective—your vision, your voice.

Anthropology

Anthropology PDF Author: Susan A. Ross
Publisher: Liturgical Press
ISBN: 0814659942
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 185

Book Description
Drawing on the wisdom and teaching experience of highly respected theologians, the Engaging Theology series builds a firm foundation for graduate study and other ministry formation programs. Each of the six volumes--Scripture, Jesus, God, Discipleship, Anthropology, and Church--is concerned with retrieving, carefully evaluating, and constructively interpreting the Christian tradition. Comprehensive in scope and accessibly written, these volumes, used together or independently, will stimulate rich theological reflection and discussion. More important, the series will create and sustain the passion of the next generation of theologians and church leaders. What does it mean to be human in the twenty-first century? Susan Ross explores this question through the lens of human desires: for God, freedom, knowledge, love, and pleasure, but also for power, consumer goods, self-gratification, and money. Beginning with biblical narratives of human desires, she goes on to consider how ancient, medieval, and modern thinkers have wrestled with the various ways that human beings have sought fulfillment in the world and in God. The twenty-first century brings new questions and continuing challenges: In a world of increasing complexity and fragmentation, can we still talk about the self? How have feminism and new thinking about sexuality changed the ways we think about ourselves? How do we maintain our humanity in the face of monstrous human evil? What do the findings of science say about our uniqueness as human beings? Anthropology: Seeking Light and Beauty offers a path through the many conflicting views of humanity, suggesting a fuller way of living as we try to follow the example of Jesus.

Seeking the Light of Justice

Pages : 400

Book Description
During a routine dismantling of an antique book's binding, Israeli Archaeologist Yoshua Rosenberg discovers the first solid clue in his quest for the legendary king, The Light of Justice. Following the professor's Internet posting, the Pope is notified of the find by Vatican security. He ventures into an underground vault and finds an ancient directive to destroy all copies of the Hoshiyan Chronicles; this book describes social, economic, spiritual and technological advances far beyond those of 15th century Europe. The pope in those days feared that a Hoshiyan Army would defeat of Christian Europe. While researching archives in Granada, the professor finds his next clue, a former synagogue converted to a now vacant chapel. Professor Rosenberg negotiates to buy it. While at the land registry office in Cordoba to transfer the deed of ownership, a suspicious briefcase catches the professor's eye. The professor saves many lives; the briefcase contained a bomb planted by the Basque Separatist movement. The Spanish press declares Yoshua a hero. Upon transfer of ownership, a local priest provides the professor with an old set of blueprints for the chapel. While examining them, the professor discovers that the outer dimensions exceed those of the interior, indicating an additional room that was sealed off. When the professor and his team breach the walls, they discover a monstrous horror: 46 tortured mummies, the remnant of a Jewish community tortured by the Inquisition and sealed behind a double brick wall. Thus, their place of worship became their tomb. Eight books were found with the bodies.Yoshua realizes his discovery will cause the Spanish government humiliation on an international scale; he fully expects the authorities to shut down Yoshua's excavation project and confiscate everything. Financer of the project, Dr. Simon Jamerson, suggests they should grab the books and escape to Gibraltar. Yoshua argues that such an action would incite the authorities to 'disappear' the bodies forever. Providing a proper burial for the martyrs morally outweighs whatever they might find in the books. Fueled by Papal encouragement, the Spanish government arrests the Israeli archeologists and confiscates all their finds. The Deputy Minister of Interior accuses Professor Rosenberg of planting the bomb in Cordoba and arrests him and part of his team on charges of terrorism. .Concerned about the valuable treasures found at Nido de Aguila, the Israeli Ambassador deploys the Mossad to watch over them. The Mossad reveals a plot by the Vatican black ops unit to destroy all the evidence from the site. The Mossad agents lay an ambush in the medical examiner's office and catch the Papal agents red-handed with accelerants. The fire at the morgue was meant as a distraction from the main mission, the destruction of the books. The final chapter of the book finds the Israel scientists in solitary confinement in Madrid's Valdemoro prison, known as "Madrid III", which sits amid the arid badlands south of Madrid. The final scene is of deep reflection and spiritual growth of the three and Professor Rosenberg's decision to start planning an escape. After a harrowing experience in prison, Rosenberg is provided information by Israeli intelligence, concerning a high-ranking terrorist traitor operating in the Spanish government. They hope to trade this valuable information for the bodies and books. Professor Rosenberg and his brother, Ysrael, employ the anti-terrorist expertise they acquired in the army and police force in a daring operation. During a shoot-out, Yoshua and Ysrael kill several terrorists and capture the traitor. The Deputy Minister of the Interior, indebted to the professor; negotiates a deal.

Bonsheá

Bonsheá PDF Author: Coral Anika Theill
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 1475981821
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 508

Book Description
Just when you thought you knew what was going on in your community, here comes a story that just may shatter the security of your American Dream. This is a story about abuse, survival, false religion and dubious court systems in a state that may be advanced on some levels, but sometimes proves to be a miserable failure in terms of equity and fairness and conventional thinking. – Tim King, Editor/Salem-News.com, War Correspondent, Author, “BETRAYAL: Toxic Exposure of U.S. Marines, Murder and Cover-Up” BONSHEÁ pierces through the darkness that hides the legal system’s routine abuse of mothers and children. It is a work of immense courage, a true tale of heartbreak and salvation. Not a single particle of the wisdom Coral shares misses the mark. - Maureen T. Hannah, Ph.D., Chair, Battered Mother’s Custody Conference, Albany, New York BONSHEÁ illustrates the degree to which the legal system can also be used as a vehicle to further perpetuate abuse even after the victim has chosen to take a stand against the abuse. – John Haroldson, District Attorney, Benton County District Attorney’s Office, Corvallis, Oregon Coral Theill’s BONSHEÁ is intense in its effort to “open the doors” behind which many domestic violence perpetrators have stood for so long in the name of “privacy.” At every level, family and friends, key people in her community, the health care system, the legal and judicial system, and the culture which socializes us all, she met with adversity and re-victimization. In the telling of her recovery, which is truly remarkable given her circumstances, the reader gets a vivid sense of the indominability of her spirit and light. I recommend this book for health care providers, those in the criminal justice system, and volunteers or helpers of any kind to get insights and clarity about the complex dynamics of domestic violence and its toxic effects to individuals and society---and what needs to be done to eradicate this pandemic problem.” – Barbara A. May, PhD, RN, Professor Emerita of Nursing, Linfield College, Portland, Oregon
