Sedimentary Processes on the Continental Slope Off New England

Sedimentary Processes on the Continental Slope Off New England PDF Author: Joseph Chad MacIlvaine
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Marine sediments
Languages : en
Pages : 422

Book Description
A detailed study of a small (5000 sq km) area of the continental slope south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, was conducted. Bathymetry, 3.5 kHz profiles, seismic profiles, suspended sediment analysis, bottom photographs, television, laboratory flume experiments, studies of surface sediments, and piston cores were combined to form the basis for understanding the sedimentary processes which control transportation, deposition, and erosion of sediments, and the geomorphic features of the continental slope. (Modified author abstract).

Landscape Evolution

Landscape Evolution PDF Author: Kerry Gallagher
Publisher: Geological Society of London
ISBN: 9781862392502
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 216

Book Description
The morphology of Earth's surface reflects the interaction of climate, tectonics and denudational processes operating over a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. These processes can be considered catastrophic or continuous; depending on the timescale of observation or interest. Recent research had required integration of historically distinct subjects such as geomorphology, sedimentology, climatology and tectonics. Together, these have provided new insights into absolute and relative rates of denudation, and the factors that control the many dynamic processes involved. Specific subject areas covered are sediment transport processes and the timescales of competing processes, the role of the geological record and landscapes in constraining different processes, the nature of landscape evolution at different spatial scales and in contrasting geological environments.
