Book Description
A search for new physics in the channel p{anti p} →??jj has been studied. In some extended Higgs models, a light neutral scalar Higgs boson is produced with suppressed couplings to fermions and standard model(SM) strength couplings to vector bosons(bosonic Higgs), thus enhancing the H →?? channel. We required one photon in the event with E{sup?}{sub T}> 20 GeV, {vert_bar}?{sup?}{vert_bar} 1.1 or 1.5 {vert_bar}?{sup?}{vert_bar} 2.0 and a second photon with E{sup?}{sub T} 15 GeV, {vert_bar}?{sup?}{vert_bar}

Book Description
The authors present results of a search for diphoton resonances produced inclusively and in association with a vector boson using 100 pb−1 of p{anti p} collisions using the CDF detector. They set upper limits on the product of cross section times branching ratio for p{anti p} →?? → X and p{anti p} →?? → W/Z. Using a NLO prediction for associated production cross section of a Higgs with a vector boson (W or Z), they set an upper limit on the branching ratio for H →??. They set a lower limit on the mass of a b̀osophilic ̀Higgs boson (e.g. one which couples only to?, W, and Z bosons with Standard Model couplings) of 82 GeV/c2 at 95% C.L.

Radiative Processes in Astrophysics
Author: George B. Rybicki
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 352761818X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 400
Book Description
Radiative Processes in Astrophysics: This clear, straightforward, and fundamental introduction is designed to present-from a physicist's point of view-radiation processes and their applications to astrophysical phenomena and space science. It covers such topics as radiative transfer theory, relativistic covariance and kinematics, bremsstrahlung radiation, synchrotron radiation, Compton scattering, some plasma effects, and radiative transitions in atoms. Discussion begins with first principles, physically motivating and deriving all results rather than merely presenting finished formulae. However, a reasonably good physics background (introductory quantum mechanics, intermediate electromagnetic theory, special relativity, and some statistical mechanics) is required. Much of this prerequisite material is provided by brief reviews, making the book a self-contained reference for workers in the field as well as the ideal text for senior or first-year graduate students of astronomy, astrophysics, and related physics courses. Radiative Processes in Astrophysics also contains about 75 problems, with solutions, illustrating applications of the material and methods for calculating results. This important and integral section emphasizes physical intuition by presenting important results that are used throughout the main text; it is here that most of the practical astrophysical applications become apparent.

Search for High-mass Diphoton Resonances in pp Collisions at {u221A}s

Pages :
Book Description
This article describes a search for high-mass resonances decaying to a pair of photons using a sample of 20.3 fb-1 of pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The data are found to be in agreement with the Standard Model prediction, and limits are reported in the framework of the Randall-Sundrum model. This theory leads to the prediction of graviton states, the lightest of which could be observed at the Large Hadron Collider. A lower limit of 2.66 (1.41) TeV at 95% confidence level is set on the mass of the lightest graviton for couplings of k/M¯Pl = 0.1 (0.01).
