Book Description
She warned of the pain. She did. But no warning can prepare you. Nothing can. Long, long ago, a little mermaid became intrigued by the way tall-crabs don't act at all like the prey she's more comfortable chasing. Her quest to understand will take her places she had never dreamed possible - onto land and beyond the endless cold. But quests always come with a price and hers is no exception. If she cannot find love within a year, she'll become sea foam. With only a month left and no closer to understanding 'love' at all, what is Maris to do? Tall-crabs - humans - are confusing and contradictory and love comes in so many forms, how can she ever know which one is right to win her life amidst friends and family on land? Fantastical worldbuilding meets verse novels in this queerplatonic retelling of The Little Mermaid, the first story in a series of queer fairytale retellings.

Book Description
Eugene Sharkov, of the Space Research Institute in Moscow, has here put together the most comprehensive description of the physical findings of an investigation into the spatio-temporal characteristics of the gravity of breaking waves. He’s also described the foam activity in the open sea using methods and instruments of optical and microwave remote sensing. Numerous practical applications and illustrations are provided from air-borne, ship-borne and laboratory up-to-date experiments.

Book Description
The text covers the problems concerning optical properties and remote sensing of turbid and surface-polluted oceans and lakes. In four chapters Helgi Arst compares remote sensing data with data collected from similar examination of clean waters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the main radiative and remote sensing characteristics and provides discussion on the properties of optically active substances (OAS) in the water and their variability and concentration, drawing on original data obtained in the Baltic Sea region. Chapter 2 focuses on the investigation of the influence of surface oil slicks on the reflection and absorption of solar radiation for both calm and ruffled sea surfaces. A model is provided for determining the temperature and the reflected component in upwelling rough seas. Chapter 3 provides remote sensing results obtained mainly for the Baltic Sea region, including some lakes. Correlations between the concentrations of OAS, water transparency and total remote sensing reflectance are investigated. Chapter 4 deals with subsurface irradiance and optical classification of turbid waters. This chapter analyses the different criteria of the euphotic depth, drawing on a semi-empirical model for the estimation of underwater light scattering. The conclusion provides discussion on the results obtained.

Book Description
“Anyone crazy enough to buy a boat deserves all the headaches he gets,” said Chuck. “What kind of boat are you looking for?” “Oh, something about 35 feet. We’re going to sail around the world.” “You poor kids,” he said sympathetically. At Middle age, Herb and Nancy Payson decided they needed a change. Why not give up life on shore, quit their in jobs in the smoky nightclubs of Los Angeles and take up the cruising life? In Sea Foam, their 36-foot ketch, the Payson’s and their large brood of teenage children cruised the Pacific for six and a half years. They experienced a certain amount of stark terror, but their delights far outbalanced the draw backs. Anyone seriously dreaming of setting off to sea should read Blown Away. Families who are already out there should make it bedtime reading as Herb shows the way families interact in the close quarters of a sailing boat at sea. But even those who find their ordered onshore existences good and fulfilling can hardly escape a twinge of envy while reading this amusing, instructive and wholly delightful adventure. This special 35th anniversary edition is enhanced with a foreword by Lin Pardey and Herb’s reflections on how cruising affected his children and his relationship with his determined, lifelong partner/wife Nancy.
