Urban Coding and Planning

Urban Coding and Planning PDF Author: Stephen Marshall
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 113568927X
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
Urban codes have a profound influence on urban form, affecting the design and placement of buildings, streets and public spaces. Historically, their use has helped create some of our best-loved urban environments, while recent advances in coding have been a growing focus of attention, particularly in Britain and North America. However, the full potential for the role of codes has yet to be realized. In Urban Coding and Planning, Stephen Marshall and his contributors investigate the nature and scope of coding; its purposes; the kinds of environments it creates; and, perhaps most importantly, its relationship to urban planning. By bringing together historical and ongoing traditions of coding from around the world – with chapters describing examples from the United Kingdom, France, India, China, Japan, Australia, South Africa, the United States and Latin America – this book provides lessons for today’s theory and practice of place-making.

Planning and Design Perspectives for Land Take Containment

Planning and Design Perspectives for Land Take Containment PDF Author: Benedetta Giudice
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030910660
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 136

Book Description
This book aims to provide a framework for the concept of land take, the practice by which natural lands are lost to artificial land development practices, and present its ecological implications in urban environments. In particular, the book intends to contextualize land take and its ecological implications in the field of planning through the analysis of the evolution of the relationship that exists between ecology and urban and regional planning, with case studies focusing on cities in Europe. Urban and regional planning (specifically in terms of tools, policies and strategies) play a central role in the redevelopment of this relationship, and through this perspective the text explores some operational criteria and guiding strategies for the creation of innovative scenarios of planning and design. The book is indeed mainly based upon an ecological planning-oriented perspective, with the attempt of creating a strong link between the plan and the project that will be useful for students, researchers, policy makers, and urban planners and designers.

Multi-Ethnic Metropolis: Patterns and Policies

Multi-Ethnic Metropolis: Patterns and Policies PDF Author: S. Musterd
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401723656
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 234

Book Description
Multi-Ethnic Metropolis is based on international comparative research on ethnic segre gation patterns and policy reactions at local and national level. The objective was to achieve a broader, European perspective. For the acquisition of the information on which this book is based, we relied heavily on our colleagues abroad and their network of relations, since a great deal of factual data and information on the policies pursued is usually not available in a freely accessible form and can only be obtained through persons who know their way around. Eventually, in formation was provided by about seventy people (data administrators, policymakers at local and state level, politicians, academic researchers, representatives of interest groups, etc. ). The names of all people that contributed to this study are mentioned in the list of persons who were interviewed. Without wishing to wrong all these people, we especially want to thank the key informants who acted as intermediaries for following contacts. In alphabetical order, these are the following persons: Dr. Lars-Erik Borgegard (Stockholm}, Prof. Chris Hamnett (London), Dr. Herve Vieil lard Baron (Paris}, Prof. dr. Chris Kesteloot (Brussels}, Prof. dr. Bob Murdie (Toronto}, Prof. Ceri Peach (London), Prof. Phil Rees (London and Manchester}, Prof Brian Rob son (Manchester) and Prof. GUnther Glebe (Dusseldorf and Frankfurt). Furthermore we owe thanks to Prof. Herman van der Wusten, who took care of the in terviews in 'Paris', which was an unruly case.
