Scattering Theory: Some Old and New Problems

Scattering Theory: Some Old and New Problems PDF Author: Dmitri R. Yafaev
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540451706
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 185

Book Description
Scattering theory is, roughly speaking, perturbation theory of self-adjoint operators on the (absolutely) continuous spectrum. It has its origin in mathematical problems of quantum mechanics and is intimately related to the theory of partial differential equations. Some recently solved problems, such as asymptotic completeness for the Schrödinger operator with long-range and multiparticle potentials, as well as open problems, are discussed. Potentials for which asymptotic completeness is violated are also constructed. This corresponds to a new class of asymptotic solutions of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Special attention is paid to the properties of the scattering matrix, which is the main observable of the theory. The book is addressed to readers interested in a deeper study of the subject.

Zeta Functions of Groups and Rings

Zeta Functions of Groups and Rings PDF Author: Marcus du Sautoy
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 354074701X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 217

Book Description
Zeta functions have been a powerful tool in mathematics over the last two centuries. This book considers a new class of non-commutative zeta functions which encode the structure of the subgroup lattice in infinite groups. The book explores the analytic behaviour of these functions together with an investigation of functional equations. Many important examples of zeta functions are calculated and recorded providing an important data base of explicit examples and methods for calculation.

Stochastic Calculus for Fractional Brownian Motion and Related Processes

Stochastic Calculus for Fractional Brownian Motion and Related Processes PDF Author: Yuliya Mishura
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540758720
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 411

Book Description
This volume examines the theory of fractional Brownian motion and other long-memory processes. Interesting topics for PhD students and specialists in probability theory, stochastic analysis and financial mathematics demonstrate the modern level of this field. It proves that the market with stock guided by the mixed model is arbitrage-free without any restriction on the dependence of the components and deduces different forms of the Black-Scholes equation for fractional market.

Simplicial Complexes of Graphs

Simplicial Complexes of Graphs PDF Author: Jakob Jonsson
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540758593
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 376

Book Description
A graph complex is a finite family of graphs closed under deletion of edges. Graph complexes show up naturally in many different areas of mathematics. Identifying each graph with its edge set, one may view a graph complex as a simplicial complex and hence interpret it as a geometric object. This volume examines topological properties of graph complexes, focusing on homotopy type and homology. Many of the proofs are based on Robin Forman's discrete version of Morse theory.

Value-Distribution of L-Functions

Value-Distribution of L-Functions PDF Author: Jörn Steuding
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540448225
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 320

Book Description
These notes present recent results in the value-distribution theory of L-functions with emphasis on the phenomenon of universality. Universality has a strong impact on the zero-distribution: Riemann’s hypothesis is true only if the Riemann zeta-function can approximate itself uniformly. The text proves universality for polynomial Euler products. The authors’ approach follows mainly Bagchi's probabilistic method. Discussion touches on related topics: almost periodicity, density estimates, Nevanlinna theory, and functional independence.

Lectures on the Automorphism Groups of Kobayashi-Hyperbolic Manifolds

Lectures on the Automorphism Groups of Kobayashi-Hyperbolic Manifolds PDF Author: Alexander Isaev
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540691537
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 149

Book Description
In this monograph the author presents a coherent exposition of recent results on complete characterization of Kobayashi-hyperbolic manifolds with high-dimensional groups of holomorphic automorphisms. These classification results can be viewed as complex-geometric analogues of those known for Riemannian manifolds with high-dimensional isotropy groups that were extensively studied in the 1950s-70s.

Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations and their Applications

Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations and their Applications PDF Author: Jin Ma
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540488316
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 285

Book Description
This volume is a survey/monograph on the recently developed theory of forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs). Basic techniques such as the method of optimal control, the 'Four Step Scheme', and the method of continuation are presented in full. Related topics such as backward stochastic PDEs and many applications of FBSDEs are also discussed in detail. The volume is suitable for readers with basic knowledge of stochastic differential equations, and some exposure to the stochastic control theory and PDEs. It can be used for researchers and/or senior graduate students in the areas of probability, control theory, mathematical finance, and other related fields.

Construction of Global Lyapunov Functions Using Radial Basis Functions

Construction of Global Lyapunov Functions Using Radial Basis Functions PDF Author: Peter Giesl
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540699090
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 175

Book Description
The basin of attraction of an equilibrium of an ordinary differential equation can be determined using a Lyapunov function. A new method to construct such a Lyapunov function using radial basis functions is presented in this volume intended for researchers and advanced students from both dynamical systems and radial basis functions. Besides an introduction to both areas and a detailed description of the method, it contains error estimates and many examples.
