Book Description
I have read countless books on how to save money. I only came across a few that really motivated me to take a chance to go ahead with what they were suggesting. Like all suggestions, you take what is needed to see if it will help you in the long run. Then I realized that my experience and situation may be different from theirs. That's when I came to the conclusion, that I had to develop a plan that will work for me. You see, when we are looking for a way out of your own personal situation, we tend to look to others for help. Now there is nothing wrong with that, if you need some sort of inspiration or guidance from others. What I am discussing in my book, is first find the motivation or inspiration in yourself and use your own experiences to get yourself back on track to save. We have to realize that all of our problems with spending and saving starts with ourselves. We are the reason why we get behind on bills or over spend on things we don't need. When we take all of our examples and what we get from others, then we can piece it altogether to benefit ourselves. I wrote this book, so I could be an example to show you, that if I could realize there was a way out for me, when I started with ME! You too can believe in yourself and your abilities to pick yourself up out of whatever problems you may be having financially. This book is filled with my experiences that I was having with money as well as stories that motivated me to get myself back on track. My feelings on how I was sick and tired of living from paycheck to paycheck and being without money when I needed it the most. When you are down, there are only two ways you can handle it. Either you lay there and wait for some miracle to happen, which never does, or you come out with your head high fighting for your family and your own financial future. I chose the latter, because I looked within myself and realized that I got myself into this situation and I will be determined to get myself out of it. We go through al

Charity Case

Charity Case PDF Author: Dan Pallotta
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118237684
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 258

Book Description
A blueprint for a national leadership movement to transform the way the public thinks about giving Virtually everything our society has been taught about charity is backwards. We deny the social sector the ability to grow because of our short-sighted demand that it send every short-term dollar into direct services. Yet if the sector cannot grow, it can never match the scale of our great social problems. In the face of this dilemma, the sector has remained silent, defenseless, and disorganized. In Charity Case, Pallotta proposes a visionary solution: a Charity Defense Council to re-educate the public and give charities the freedom they need to solve our most pressing social issues. Proposes concrete steps for how a national Charity Defense Council will transform the public understanding of the humanitarian sector, including: building an anti-defamation league and legal defense for the sector, creating a massive national ongoing ad campaign to upgrade public literacy about giving, and ultimately enacting a National Civil Rights Act for Charity and Social Enterprise From Dan Pallotta, renowned builder of social movements and inventor of the multi-day charity event industry (including the AIDS Rides and Breast Cancer 3-Days) that has cumulatively raised over $1.1 billion for critical social causes The hotly-anticipated follow-up to Pallotta’s groundbreaking book Uncharitable Grounded in Pallotta’s clear vision and deep social sector experience, Charity Case is a fascinating wake-up call for fixing the culture that thwarts our charities’ ability to change the world.

Contesting Sacrifice

Contesting Sacrifice PDF Author: Ivan Strenski
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 0226777367
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 247

Book Description
From the counter-reformation through the twentieth century, the notion of sacrifice has played a key role in French culture and nationalist politics. Ivan Strenski traces the history of sacrificial thought in France, starting from its origins in Roman Catholic theology. Throughout, he highlights not just the dominant discourse on sacrifice but also the many competing conceptions that contested it. Strenski suggests that the annihilating spirituality rooted in the Catholic model of Eucharistic sacrifice persuaded the judges in the Dreyfus Case to overlook or play down his possible innocence because a scapegoat was needed to expiate the sins of France and save its army from disgrace. Strenski also suggests that the French army's strategy in World War I, French fascism, and debates over public education and civic morals during the Third Republic all owe much to Catholic theology of sacrifice and Protestant reinterpretations of it. Pointing out that every major theorist of sacrifice is French, including Bataille, Durkheim, Girard, Hubert, and Mauss, Strenski argues that we cannot fully understand their work without first taking into account the deep roots of sacrificial thought in French history.

Rituals of Sacrifice

Rituals of Sacrifice PDF Author: Vincent James Stanzione
Publisher: UNM Press
ISBN: 9780826329172
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 356

Book Description
Living and working among the Tz'utujil Maya people of Santiago Atitlán in highland Guatemala for some fifteen years, Vincent Stanzione has observed, photographed, and participated in their ritual and ceremonial life, which he describes with unique authority in this account of the continuities in Mayan culture from pre-Columbian times to the present. "This book represents both a confirmation and an innovation in the scholarship and field work about the religious imagination and rites of passage of Maya peoples. I know of no book that is as able to a) link the pre-Hispanic, colonial and contemporary religious practices of these peoples into a coherent narrative, b) combine anthropological/religious studies theory with linguistics and ongoing field work as creatively and c) illuminate the debate between models of 'syncretism' and 'transculturation' about a contemporary ritual cycle as Stanzione's beautifully illustrated work."--David Carrasco, Harvard University
