Book Description
Welcome to Creekwood... Angela Head down, eyes peeled for any opportunity to get off the dead-end course my mother carelessly paved for me years ago. My plan takes a sharp turn landing me directly across the hall from Creekwood's resident bad boys. The three streetbike riding misfits are as stubborn as they are sexy. And they. Are. Sexy. Especially the one with the mocha swirl eyes watching my every move. Even the six-foot hallway separating us can't keep the overbearing trio from constantly getting in my way, but when my past threatens to catch up with me, I quickly learn not every detour promises an easier route, no matter how tempting my new neighbors might make it look. CotyHead up, eyes locked on anything threatening to throw me off the carefully constructed path I have mapped out. I live my life the same way I ride my bike, never once regretting the roads I've chosen.Lately though, after years of the same scenery, everything's starting to blur together. It's only when our elusive neighbor girl comes out of nowhere that I realize what's been missing. And now that I have, I don't think I can let her pass by so quickly. At least not without proving the lengths I'll go for her first.

Mathematical Encounters and Pedagogical Detours

Mathematical Encounters and Pedagogical Detours PDF Author: Boris Koichu
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030584348
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 219

Book Description
This book explores the idea that mathematics educators and teachers are also problem solvers and learners, and as such they constantly experience mathematical and pedagogical disturbances. Accordingly, many original tasks and learning activities are results of personal mathematical and pedagogical disturbances of their designers, who then transpose these disturbances into learning opportunities for their students. This learning-transposition process is a cornerstone of mathematics teacher education as a lived, developing enterprise. Mathematical Encounters and Pedagogical Detours unfold the process and illustrate it by various examples. The book engages readers in original tasks, shares the results of task implementation and describes how these results inform the development of new tasks, which often intertwine mathematics and pedagogy. Most importantly, the book includes a dialogue between the authors based on the stories of their own learning, which triggers continuous exploration of learning opportunities for their students.

Dust Off the Gold Medal

Dust Off the Gold Medal PDF Author: Sara L. Schwebel
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000417611
Category : Literary Collections
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
The oldest and most prestigious children’s literature award, the Newbery Medal has since 1922 been granted annually by the American Library Association to the children’s book it deems "most distinguished." Medal books enjoy an outsized influence on American children’s literature, figuring perennially on publishers’ lists, on library and bookstore shelves, and in school curricula. As such, they offer a compelling window into the history of US children’s literature and publishing, as well as into changing societal attitudes about which books are "best" for America’s schoolchildren. Yet literary scholars have disproportionately ignored the Medal winners in their research. This volume provides a critically- and historically-grounded scholarly analysis of representative but understudied Newbery Medal books from the 1920s through the 2010s, interrogating the disjunction between the books’ omnipresence and influence, on the one hand, and the critical silence surrounding them, on the other. Dust Off the Gold Medal makes a case for closing these scholarly gaps by revealing neglected texts’ insights into the politics of children’s literature prizing and by demonstrating how neglected titles illuminate critical debates currently central to the field of children’s literature. In particular, the essays shed light on the hidden elements of diversity apparent in the neglected Newbery canon while illustrating how the books respond—sometimes in quite subtle ways—to contemporaneous concerns around race, class, gender, disability, nationalism, and globalism.
