Precision of Tests for Assessment of the Deicer Salt Scaling Resistance of Concrete

Precision of Tests for Assessment of the Deicer Salt Scaling Resistance of Concrete PDF Author: J. Marchand
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Concrete
Languages : en
Pages : 7

Book Description
Some aspects of the variability of Test Method for Scaling Resistance of Concrete Surfaces Exposed to Deicing Chemicals (ASTM C 672) measurements are discussed in this paper. The influence of the operator's subjectivity on the visual rating is studied. The relationship between the visual rating and the cumulated mass of scaled-off particles is also analyzed. From a statistical analysis of several hundred different concrete mixtures, the variability of the test method is estimated for various types of concrete considering only the cumulated mass of scaled-off particles. Using the same statistical analysis, the precision of ASTM C 672 is finally compared to that of the Canadian brine immersion test (Precast Concrete Paving Blocks, CAN/CSA A231.2 M85) designed to assess the deicer salt scaling resistance of precast concrete elements.

Durability of Concrete in Cold Climates

Pages : 296

Book Description
Comprehensive coverage of durability of concrete at both material and structural levels, with design related issues Links two active fields in materials science and structural engineering: the durability processes of concrete materials and design methods of concrete structures Facilitates communication between the two communities, helping to implement life-cycle concepts into future design methods of concrete structures Presents state-of-the-art information on the deterioration mechanism and performance evolution of structural concrete under environmental actions and the design methods for durability of concrete structures Provides efficient support and practical tools for life-cycle oriented structural design which has been widely recognized as a new generation of design philosophy for engineering structures The author has long experience working with the topic and the materials presented have been part of the author's current teaching course of Durability and Assessment of Engineering Structures for graduate students at Tsinghua University The design methods and approaches for durability of concrete structures are developed from newly finished high level research projects and have been employed as recommended provisions in design code including Chinese Code and Eurocode 2

Frost Resistance of Concrete

Frost Resistance of Concrete PDF Author: R Auberg
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0203627326
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 400

Book Description
This book forms the proceedings of the international workshop to be held in Essen, Germany. This workshop summarises the conclusion of the technical committee's investigations into the resistance of concrete to freeze-thaw attack, specific in this to resistance with or without de-icing chemicals. It presents the RILEM recommendations on testing the freeze-thaw and de-icing salt resistance of concrete.

Freeze-Thaw Durability of Concrete

Freeze-Thaw Durability of Concrete PDF Author: J. Marchand
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1482271559
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 285

Book Description
Concrete durability in climates where freezing and thawing occurs is a continuing problem. It is particularly acute for highway and bridge structures, where de-icing salts are used to combat the effects of frost, snow and ice. These salts can cause damage to concrete and accelerate corrosion of reinforcements. This book presents the latest internat

Geopolymers

Geopolymers PDF Author: J L Provis
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1845696387
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 469

Book Description
A geopolymer is a solid aluminosilicate material usually formed by alkali hydroxide or alkali silicate activation of a solid precursor such as coal fly ash, calcined clay and/or metallurgical slag. Today the primary application of geopolymer technology is in the development of reduced-CO2 construction materials as an alternative to Portland-based cements. Geopolymers: structure, processing, properties and industrial applications reviews the latest research on and applications of these highly important materials.Part one discusses the synthesis and characterisation of geopolymers with chapters on topics such as fly ash chemistry and inorganic polymer cements, geopolymer precursor design, nanostructure/microstructure of metakaolin and fly ash geopolymers, and geopolymer synthesis kinetics. Part two reviews the manufacture and properties of geopolymers including accelerated ageing of geopolymers, chemical durability, engineering properties of geopolymer concrete, producing fire and heat-resistant geopolymers, utilisation of mining wastes and thermal properties of geopolymers. Part three covers applications of geopolymers with coverage of topics such as commercialisation of geopolymers for construction, as well as applications in waste management. With its distinguished editors and international team of contributors, Geopolymers: structure, processing, properties and industrial applications is a standard reference for scientists and engineers in industry and the academic sector, including practitioners in the cement and concrete industry as well as those involved in waste reduction and disposal. Discusses the synthesis and characterisation of geopolymers with chapters covering fly ash chemistry and inorganic polymer cements Assesses the application and commercialisation of geopolymers with particular focus on applications in waste management Reviews the latest research on and applications of these highly important materials
