Salt Crystallization in Porous Media

Salt Crystallization in Porous Media PDF Author: Hannelore Derluyn
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1394312423
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 214

Book Description
The crystallization of one or multiple salts in porous media (rocks, soils, building materials, etc.) is a subject of major interest in connection with numerous issues such as soil salinization, evaporation, CO2 injection into saline aquifers, the durability of building materials and the preservation of our cultural heritage. Salt Crystallization in Porous Media provides an interdisciplinary review of the key scientific knowledge required to understand this field of research, and illustrates the issues involved through a series of concrete examples. This book has been written for students completing their Master’s level degree or higher in the field, as well as researchers and engineers interested in this research. It may also be of interest to a wider readership, as certain sections can be used to illustrate basic concepts, reaching beyond the subject of salt crystallization itself.

IUTAM Symposium on Physicochemical and Electromechanical, Interactions in Porous Media

IUTAM Symposium on Physicochemical and Electromechanical, Interactions in Porous Media PDF Author: Jacques Huyghe
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402038658
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 373

Book Description
In the last decades, new experimental and numerical techniques have taken many advanced features of porous media mechanics down to practical engineering applications. This happened in areas that sometimes were not even suspected to be open to engineering ideas at all. The challenge that often faces engineers in the field of geomechanics, biomechanics, rheology and materials science is the translation of ideas existing in one field to solutions in the other. The purpose of the IUTAM symposium from which this proceedings volume has been compiled was to dive deep into the mechanics of those porous media that involve mechanics and chemistry, mechanics and electromagnetism, mechanics and thermal fluctuations of mechanics and biology. The different sections have purposely not been formed according to field interest, but on the basis of the physics involved.

Fluids in Porous Media

Fluids in Porous Media PDF Author: Henk Huinink
Publisher: Morgan & Claypool Publishers
ISBN: 1681742977
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 115

Book Description
This book introduces the reader into the field of the physics of processes occurring in porous media. It targets Master and PhD students who need to gain fundamental understanding the impact of confinement on transport and phase change processes. The book gives brief overviews of topics like thermodynamics, capillarity and fluid mechanics in order to launch the reader smoothly into the realm of porous media. In-depth discussions are given of phase change phenomena in porous media, single phase flow, unsaturated flow and multiphase flow. In order to make the topics concrete the book contains numerous example calculations. Further, as much experimental data as possible is plugged in to give the reader the ability to quantify phenomena.

Industrial Crystallization

Industrial Crystallization PDF Author: J. Mullin
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461572584
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 457

Book Description
Industrial Crystallization Symposia have been organized by the Crystallization Research Group at the Czechoslovak Research Institute for Inorganic Chemistry, Usti nad Labem, since 1960. Over the years, the increasing popularity of the unit operation of crystallization has been clearly demonstrated by the steady increase in numbers of both the papers presented and the attendances at the meetings. The 6th Symposium (1-3 September 1975) was organized jointly with the European Federation of Chemical Engineering Working Party on Crystallization, and the 44 papers presented were arranged into four sessions - A: Secondary Nucleation, B: Crystal Growth Kinetics, C: Crystal Habit Modification, D: Crystallizer Design, E: Indus trial Crystallizer Operation and Case Studies. The same groupings are preserved in this edited version of the proceedings. This is the first time that the Industrial Crystallization Symposium papers have appeared in one volume. After the 5th (1972) Symposium, authors we.re encouraged to submit their papers to an international journal specializing in crystallization. However, the results were not altogether satisfactory in that less than one third of the papers presented at the meeting were offered for consideration. This time, therefore, the organizing committee decided to attempt to keep the papers together by making arrangements for their pUblication by Plenum Press.
