The Verse After The Verse
Author: Doc Shear
Publisher: Book Venture Publishing LLC
ISBN: 1641667273
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 99
Book Description
Rev. Dr. J. Clinton “Clint” McCann, Evangelical Professor of Biblical Interpretation at Eden Theological Seminary and an ordained minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church USA. “It was a pleasure to teach Doc Shear at both the masters and doctorate level, and now it is a pleasure to read his new book! In THE VERSE AFTER THE VERSE, Doc Shear demonstrates both his ability as a faithful biblical interpreter and his talent as a story-telling preacher. Each chapter both instructs and inspires. Good reading for both church leaders and laypeople!” Dr. Shirley Kaczmarski, retired school principal, church musician and author. She works at John Calvin Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, Missouri. “Everyone loves stories, and Doc Shear has an unending supply. His masterful connection of these stories to scripture is always engaging and this book is a prime example. I had not thought to connect a well-memorized verse to the one that follows until I read this book. A great resource to push readers to think of a unique approach to Bible study.”

Labor, Loyalty, and Rebellion
Author: Carl R. Weinberg
Publisher: SIU Press
ISBN: 9780809388424
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 284
Book Description
On April 5, 1918, as American troops fought German forces on the Western Front, German American coal miner Robert Prager was hanged from a tree outside Collinsville, Illinois, having been accused of disloyal utterances about the United States and chased out of town by a mob. In Labor, Loyalty, and Rebellion: Southwestern Illinois Coal Miners and World War I, Carl R. Weinberg offers a new perspective on the Prager lynching and confronts the widely accepted belief among labor historians that workers benefited from demonstrating loyalty to the nation. The first published study of wartime strikes in southwestern Illinois is a powerful look at a group of people whose labor was essential to the war economy but whose instincts for class solidarity spawned a rebellion against mine owners both during and after the war. At the same time, their patriotism wreaked violent working-class disunity that crested in the brutal murder of an immigrant worker. Weinberg argues that the heightened patriotism of the Prager lynching masked deep class tensions within the mining communities of southwestern Illinois that exploded after the Great War ended.
