Book Description
From Sadness and Happiness: Poems by Robert Pinsky: CEREMONY FOR ANY BEGINNING Robert Pinsky ? Against weather, and the random Harpies--mood, circumstance, the laws Of biography, chance, physics-- The unseasonable soul holds forth, Eager for form as a renowned Pedant, the emperor's man of worth, Hereditary arbiter of manners. Soul, one's life is one's enemy. As the small children learn, what happens Takes over, and what you were goes away. They learn it in sardonic soft Comments of the weather, when it sharpens The hard surfaces of daylight: light Winds, vague in direction, like blades Lavishing their brilliant strokes All over a wrecked house, The nude wallpaper and the brute Intelligence of the torn pipes. Therefore when you marry or build Pray to be untrue to the plain Dominance of your own weather, how it keeps Going even in the woods when not A soul is there, and how it implies Always that separate, cold Splendidness, uncouth and unkind-- On chilly, unclouded mornings, Torrential sunlight and moist air, Leafage and solid bark breathing the mist.

I'm Happy-Sad Today

I'm Happy-Sad Today PDF Author: Lory Britain
Publisher: Free Spirit Publishing
ISBN: 1631983075
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 42

Book Description
This friendly picture book helps young children make sense of mixed-up emotions. Happy, and also sad. Excited, but nervous too. Feeling friendly, with a little shyness mixed in. Mixed feelings are natural, but they can be confusing. There are different kinds of happy—the quiet kind and the “noisy, giggly, jump and run” kind. And there are conflicting feelings, like proud and jealous, frustrated and determined. With gentle messaging and charming illustrations, a little girl talks about her many layered feelings, ultimately concluding, “When I have more than one feeling inside me, I don’t have to choose just one. I know that all my feelings are okay at the same time.” A special section for adults presents ideas for helping children explore their emotions, build a vocabulary of feeling words, know what to do if they feel overwhelmed, and more.

Book Description
"In any human life there are going to be periods of unhappiness. That is part of the human experience. Learning how to be sad is a natural first step in how to be happier."—Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute "How to Be Sad is a poignant, funny, and deeply practical guide to better navigating one of our most misunderstood human emotions. It's a must-read for anyone looking to improve their happiness by befriending the full range of their own feelings." - Laurie Santos, Chandrika and Ranjan Tandon Professor of Psychology at Yale University and host of The Happiness Lab podcast An expert on the pursuit of happiness combines her powerful personal story with surprising research and expert advice to reveal the secret of finding joy: allowing sadness to enrich your life and relationships. Helen Russell has researched sadness from the inside out for her entire life. Her earliest memory is of the day her sister died. Her parents divorced soon after, and her mother didn’t receive the help she needed to grieve. Coping with her own emotional turmoil—including struggles with body image and infertility—she’s endured professional and personal setbacks as well as relationships that have imploded in truly spectacular ways. Even the things that brought her the greatest joy—like eventually becoming a parent—are fraught with challenges. While devoting a career to writing books on happiness, Helen discovered just how many people are terrified of sadness. But the key to happiness is unhappiness—by allowing ourselves to experience pain, we learn to truly appreciate and embrace joy. How to Be Sad is a memoir about living with sadness, as well as an upbeat manifesto for change that encourages us to accept and express our emotions, both good and bad. Interweaving Helen’s personal testimony with the latest research on sadness—from psychologists, geneticists, neuroscientists and historians—as well as the experiences of writers, comics, athletes and change-makers from around the world, this vital and inspiring guide explores why we get sad, what makes us feel this way, and how it can be a force for good. Timely and essential, How to Be Sad is about how we can better look after ourselves and each other, simply by getting smarter about sadness.

If we don't know how to be sad, it can be isolating for those experiencing it and baffling for those trying to help loved ones through dark times. Today, most of us know intellectually that 'sad' is normal. But we're not always brilliant at allowing for it, in practice. Sadness is going to happen, so we might as well know how to 'do it' right. And it's time to start facing our problems and talking about them. Positive psychology may have become more accepted in mainstream culture, but rates of depression have continued to rise. We're trying so hard to be happy. But studies show that we could all benefit from learning the art of sadness and how to handle it, well.

Book Description
I wrote this book because I believe I have something to offer persons who are challenged to deal with life's difficulties. Stress, unhealthy relationships, unrealistic expectations, negative self-esteem, and life's pressure of life cause our mind, body and soul to to kilter out of balance and then, our health suffers. Stress is connected to all physical and mental health complications. Given my 40 years of working with adults, teens and children, I have developed programs in schools, hospitals and my private practice that have helped individuals develop successful coping skills.Happiness is a feeling state that can be obtained if effective strategies are applied. To be successful, people must consistently work at making needed changes in their lives. My education has prepared me to contribute to helping people with replacing the sadness and discontent in their lives with happiness. My first master's degree was in behavioral science, it was a very conservative methodology; and, my second master's was in metaphysical science, a more liberal approach to mental health. My Ph.D. is in wholistic life coaching that combined the two degrees. As I examined each of the techniques and practices used to help turn negativity into happiness, I researched and tested the use of all of the different coping skills that had been developed. Throughout this book, I provide personal experiences and testimonials by individuals who have used these techniques. The result of my findings, proved to me that people who are dealing with negative thoughts or feelings can make changes that will put a smile on their face and enabled them to enjoy life. After counseling over 15,000 suicidal patients I treated in emergency rooms, I can say that if a person makes a commitment to refocus or make personal changes in his/her life, happiness can be achieved. they can be happy. So, its your choice, you can be happy or you can be sad. For me... I "Choose to Be Happy!"
