(Fuente: www.todostuslibros.com).

Luis Buñuel

Luis Buñuel PDF Author: Román Gubern
Publisher: University of Wisconsin Pres
ISBN: 0299284735
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 458

Book Description
The turbulent years of the 1930s were of profound importance in the life of Spanish film director Luis Buñuel (1900–1983). He joined the Surrealist movement in 1929 but by 1932 had renounced it and embraced Communism. During the Spanish Civil War (1936–39), he played an integral role in disseminating film propaganda in Paris for the Spanish Republican cause. Luis Buñuel: The Red Years, 1929–1939 investigates Buñuel’s commitment to making the politicized documentary Land without Bread (1933) and his key role as an executive producer at Filmófono in Madrid, where he was responsible in 1935–36 for making four commercial features that prefigure his work in Mexico after 1946. As for the republics of France and Spain between which Buñuel shuttled during the 1930s, these became equally embattled as left and right totalitarianisms fought to wrest political power away from a debilitated capitalism. Where it exists, the literature on this crucial decade of the film director’s life is scant and relies on Buñuel’s own self-interested accounts of that complex period. Román Gubern and Paul Hammond have undertaken extensive archival research in Europe and the United States and evaluated Buñuel’s accounts and those of historians and film writers to achieve a portrait of Buñuel’s “Red Years” that abounds in new information.

Neurological Emergencies

Neurological Emergencies PDF Author: Hughes Richard A C
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781119972426
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 491

Book Description
The 4th edition of OC Neurological emergenciesOCO edited by Professor Richard Hughes presents an up to date guide to the pathogenesis and management of common emergencies in neurology (acute stroke, tonic-clonic status epilepticus), neurosurgery (traumatic brain injury, raised intracranial pressure, subarachnoid haemorrhage, acute spinal cord compression) and related specialties such as medicine (medical coma), intensive care (acute neuromuscular respiratory paralysis, brain stem death), infectious diseases (cerebral infection), ophthalmology (acute visual loss) and psychiatry (delirium, acute behaviour disturbance). The volume complements a small series of related titles from the same publishers on epidemiology, investigation and management of neurological disorders. Each of the 13 chapters authored by experts in the respective fields is clearly and consistently structured, providing a detailed outline of pathogenesis as a rational basis for recommended investigations and management of specific conditions. Pathophysiological considerations are comprehensive and incorporate recent advances such as the increased understanding of the neurochemical basis of secondary brain injury and the association between specific apolipoprotein E genotypes and an increased risk of AlzheimerOCOs disease following head trauma. Recommended diagnostic strategies are clearly outlined and advantages and limitations of specific investigations are discussed in the context of each clinical scenario. Numerous tables throughout the text (for example on investigation of stroke, delirium and neuromuscular disorders associated with respiratory paralysis) allow for easily accessible and concise reference."

The Positive Power of Negative Emotions

The Positive Power of Negative Emotions PDF Author: Tim Lomas
Publisher: Piatkus Books
ISBN: 9780349412849
Category : Emotions
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
The pursuit of happiness is universal. Most of us would like to experience more joy and elation. But when we feel like we are falling short of this ideal, we can often feel downcast. We may even see 'darker' emotional states, from sadness and anger to envy and anxiety, as character defects or serious illnesses. In fact, there is unexpected value in the emotions most of us see as 'negative'. In subtle ways, the more negative emotions can bring us to a richer state of wellbeing. For example, sadness can open our hearts to the fragile beauty of life, enabling us to appreciate what we would usually take for granted. While anger may seem unpleasant, if channelled well, it can be a great catalyst for change and improvement in society. THE POSITIVE POWER OF NEGATIVE EMOTIONS shows how the darker states of emotion are vital to a better understanding of ourselves and a more fulfilled life.
