The Cambridge Companion to St Paul

The Cambridge Companion to St Paul PDF Author: James D. G. Dunn
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 110749446X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 461

Book Description
The apostle Paul has been justifiably described as the first and greatest Christian theologian. His letters were among the earliest documents to be included in the New Testament and, as such, they shaped Christian thinking from the beginning. As a missionary, theologian and pastor Paul's own wrestling with theological and ethical questions of his day is paradigmatic for Christian theology, not least for Christianity's own identity and continuing relationship with Judaism. The Cambridge Companion to St Paul provides an important assessment of this apostle and a fresh appreciation of his continuing significance today. With eighteen chapters written by a team of leading international specialists on Paul, the Companion provides a sympathetic and critical overview of the apostle, covering his life and work, his letters and his theology. The volume will provide an invaluable starting point and helpful cross check for subsequent studies.

Apostle Paul and His Companions

Book Description
In the history of the first-century church, the ministry of Apostle Paul was well-recorded by Dr. Luke in the Book of Acts. If Dr. Luke had not taken the time to write the Book of Acts, we would probably know hardly anything about him today. The Bible tells us that Barnabas, one of Paul’s companions, introduced him to the other apostles. He was responsible for recognizing Paul’s efficiency and the one who brought him to a minister in Antioch. Sadly, Barnabas himself was not well-known by most Christians. It was Paul’s friends who helped his ministry spread wide and become effective. As you read this book, I pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten your heart and mind to help you understand the importance of Divine guidance and mission through spiritual mentors and be strengthened in faith.

Book Description
Excerpt from S. Paul and His Companions This work is a short study on the book of the Acts of the Apostles, an enquiry into the power of Friendship as a factor in the life of S. Paul. This will sufficiently explain the author's point of departure in one special direction; he has refrained from examining the question of the authenticity of the Pauline Epistles. In fact, when so many writers of repute, for example Professor Zahn, accept the canonical Epistles as genuine, he would be a bold man who would unhesitatingly question the claim of any of the Epistles to a rightful place in the New Testament canon. The author has therefore proceeded on orthodox lines and accepted as genuine such Epistles as 2 Thessalonians, I and 2 Timothy, and Titus. One other point should be noticed. The South Galatian theory has been accepted as more reasonable than that advocated by Lightfoot. The quotations are made from the Revised Version of the New Testament.
