He married Sarah Miner (1805-1843), daughter of Amos Miner and Phoebe Hamblin, 23 June 1822. They had ten children. He married Elizabeth Sevier in 1844 and they had one daughter. He married Arrena A. Beasley in 1849 and they had eight children. He died in 1889 in Illinois. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Texas.

This is the true story of a 17-year-old kid who quit high school in his junior year to join the Marines. After a short cruise with the 6th Fleet in the Mediterranean, he was assigned to a rifle company in Vietnam during the heaviest fighting of the war in 1967 and 1968.
