Book Description
Excerpt from Rural Denmark and Its Lessons In collecting the material for this book its author followed the method of actually inspecting Danish farms of various sizes, and taking careful notes on the spot of what he saw and heard. The results recorded in these pages may therefore be accepted as accurate to the best of his knowledge and belief. In the same way he interviewed personally the different authorities whose opinions he has quoted. As most of this work, however, was of necessity done by the help of an interpreter, it is possible that errors, consequent on misunderstandings, may have crept in here and there, and for such errors, if any, he apologises in advance. Further, the fact that all money standards, temperatures, weights, measures, &c., required rendering into their English equivalents, which are not always easy to arrive at, opens a door to possible mistakes. Lastly, some names may occasionally have been misspelt, although he has done his best to avoid such blunders. Book Description
* NOW WITH A NEW CHAPTER * 'A hugely enjoyable romp through the pleasures and pitfalls of setting up home in a foreign land.'- Guardian Given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: Denmark, land of long dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries, was the happiest place on earth. Keen to know their secrets, Helen gave herself a year to uncover the formula for Danish happiness. From childcare, education, food and interior design to SAD and taxes, The Year of Living Danishly records a funny, poignant journey, showing us what the Danes get right, what they get wrong, and how we might all live a little more Danishly ourselves. In this new edition, six years on Helen reveals how her life and family have changed, and explores how Denmark, too – or her understanding of it – has shifted. It's a messy and flawed place, she concludes – but can still be a model for a better way of living.

Danish Agriculture (Classic Reprint)

Danish Agriculture (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Rudolf Schou

Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 20

Book Description
Excerpt from Danish Agriculture At the same time the number of cattle has been increased as mentioned before. One can also rightly claim that the value of the live stock in the course of 30 years has been increased by and to this must be added the increased value of farm buildings, dea stock, machines, etc., as well as the value of the something like dairies and 43 cooperative bacon factories that have been erected by agriculturists. This development dates from the period about 30 years ago, when the corn prices fell and the economical status of agriculture was less good, if not to say bad. The transition from the sale of corn to the producing of cattle is a very interesting period in the history of Danish agriculture. Denmark

Denmark PDF Author: Frederic C. Howe

Pages : 224

Book Description
Excerpt from Denmark: A Cooperative Commonwealth As I reread the proof-sheets of this study of Denmark and the Danish people, I felt that I should have some confirmation of my observations as to the conditions in that country. A visitor is likely to see what he goes prepared to see or what over-zealous friends want him to see. To guard against this danger, I took the proofs to well-informed Danes resident in this country for criticism. They kindly checked up the historical and social data. They verified the statistical statements from official manuals. They confirmed the interpretation of the cultural life of the people, of the essential democracy of the country, and of the industrial and social conditions that prevail. Denmark seems to me to be quite the most valuable political exhibit in the modern world. It should be studied by statesmen. It should be visited by commissions, especially by commissions from the agricultural states of the American West. How to Learn Danish (Dano-Norwegian) PDF Author: E. C. Otté

ISBN: 9780265340080
Category : Foreign Language Study

Pages : 380

Book Description
Excerpt from How to Learn Danish (Dano-Norwegian): A Manual for Students of Danish (Dano-Norwegian); Based Upon the Ollendorffian System of Teaching Languages, and Adapted for Self-Instruction Of late years a desire has been shown by certain patriotic Norwegians to secure for their native land a special mother tongue, distinct from that which has for ages been common to the natives of Denmark and Norway. But the attempt to revive the language spoken by Norwegians before the union of their country with Denmark, at the close of the fourteenth century, would seem as impracticable and undesirable in our times, as if Englishmen were to insist upon Incorporating in their written language the various remnants of Old English, which still survive in the local dialects of Cumberland. Dorset, and Somerset. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
