Book Description
In the 1980s, the Ontario Board of Censors began to subject media artists’ work to the same cuts, bans, and warning labels as commercial film. Ruling Out Art reveals what happens when art and law intersect, when artists, arts exhibitors, and their anti-censorship allies enter courts of law as appellants, defendants, or expert witnesses. The administration of culture during Ontario’s censor wars was not a simple top-down exercise. Members of arts communities mounted grassroots protests and engaged the province in court cases that ultimately influenced how the province interpreted freedom of expression, a fundamental and far-reaching legal right. The language of the law in turn shaped the way artists conceived of their own practices. By exploring how art practices and provincial legislation intertwined during Ontario’s censor wars, this innovative book documents an important moment in the history of contemporary art and cultural activism in Canada, one that helped artists secure their constitutional rights under the law.

WHO consolidated guidelines on tuberculosis. Module 6
Author: World Health Organization
Publisher: World Health Organization
ISBN: 9240087001
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 90
Book Description
Addressing comorbidities and risk factors for tuberculosis (TB) is a crucial component of the World Health Organization (WHO)’s End TB Strategy. These consolidated guidelines on tuberculosis. Module 6: tuberculosis and comorbidities summarize the latest WHO recommendations on TB and key comorbidities. It is a living document and will include a separate section for each of the key TB comorbidities or health-related risk factors. This first edition focuses on interventions to address HIV-associated TB and is an update of the WHO policy on collaborative TB/HIV activities: guidelines for national programmes and other stakeholders. People with HIV are 12–16 times more likely to develop TB disease, have poorer TB treatment outcomes and have three-fold higher mortality during TB treatment compared to people without HIV. Despite advances in the screening, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of TB disease, TB remains the leading cause of death among people with HIV worldwide. These consolidated guidelines are intended for use by people working in ministries of health, particularly TB programmes and the relevant departments or programmes responsible for comorbidities and health-related risk factors for TB, as well as programmes addressing mental health and lung health, implementing partners including technical and funding agencies, civil society and representatives of affected communities, clinicians and public health practitioners.

Deciphering the European Investment Bank
Author: Lucia Coppolaro
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1000596400
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 357
Book Description
Deciphering the European Investment Bank: History, Politics and Economics examines the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Union’s financial institution and the largest lender and borrower among the International Financial Institutions. Since its establishment in 1958, the EIB has developed without becoming front-page news and has remained highly invisible. By putting together 14 chapters that analyze topical and meaningful moments and aspects of the bank, this edited book offers the first comprehensive analysis of its origins and its evolution in terms of its mandate, governance, structures, policy activity, and performance. Written by acknowledged experts from various disciplines, the chapters weave together history, economics, law, and political science to provide a multidisciplinary examination and capture the complexity of the EIB. The book is a timely initiative for understanding the EIB, whose role has been ever increasing for contributing to the recent global economic challenges, including the economic and financial crisis, climate change, and COVID-19 pandemic. The chapters are written at a level which will be comprehensible to undergraduates in economics, history, and international political economy. It will also be a valuable source of reference for academics, policy makers, bankers, and other practitioners interested in regional development banks and their role in the global economy.
