Royal Jubilees

Royal Jubilees PDF Author: Judith Millidge

ISBN: 1782001220

Pages : 112

Book Description
An illustrated history of British royal jubilee celebrations from George III to Elizabeth II. In 1809, thanksgiving ceremonies and feasts across Britain ushered George III into his fiftieth year as king. This was the first British celebration of a royal jubilee and set the tone for those that have followed since: processions, fireworks, construction of monuments, the striking of special coins and medals, and, of course, the sale of commemorative mugs. Queen Victoria marked her golden and diamond jubilees in 1887 and 1897 amid throngs of patriotic subjects from all over the world, and celebrations were also held for George V's silver jubilee in 1935. Following the festivities in 1977 and 2002, in 2012 Queen Elizabeth II became the first British monarch ever to celebrate her third jubilee, as she began her seventh decade on the throne. Judith Millidge describes the handful of British royal jubilees across 200 years, examines how they have been commemorated, their similarities and differences, and the myriad souvenir products that have accompanied them.

Souvenirs from the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria

Souvenirs from the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria PDF Author: Richard and Susan Wales
Publisher: Author House
ISBN: 148178062X
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 226

Book Description
A flavour of this book ... This small disk is called Carmichael’s Amulet and it commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria by the dates 1837 and 1897. These are the dates of her 60 years reign. To the right can be seen a mould that is carved from wood. It seems to have been professionally made in a large block that is well finished and furnished with a hook for hanging up. The mould may have produced butter pats or terrines for a Victorian celebration. As well as the Diamond Jubilee dates it commemorates the Record Reign that Queen Victoria had achieved in 1896 after being monarch for longer than George III. These images were taken by the authors as this book was being written and so they do not appear in the text which summarises an enormous variety of Diamond Jubilee souvenirs. Inside you will find a unique view of Victoriana that was made to celebrate one event at the height of the powers of the British Empire. The souvenirs will give you a glimpse into Victorian creative ingenuity as well as the thinking and beliefs of people in 1897.

Interview with Christopher Christopher was asked; Where did the idea for this book at bedtime come from? He replied; I have always loved reading the story The Tiger who came to tea to my own children and those in my care. I read the story one day early this year to a class of four year olds and it struck me what if it was another animal, person, creature, who came to tea who just dropped in ...how we would feel. How would I... what would happen... what changes...what repercussion....my pen started to fly across the page...... What is this amazing story about ;Its about an ordinary little girl called Lillibet, a reluctant reader who out of the blue gets invited to meet the Queen of England in her own home; it describes her adventure of making plans with her mum, paving the way at school with her classmates and all their questions ...dealing with security... communicating to the Queen and her office...and a secret is revealed. Lillibet tries to remain calm and help her mum to get ready for the big day but will it all work out as planned...
