Book Description

ISBN:
Category :
Languages : fr
Pages : 251

Book Description
LES ELEMENTS LINEAIRES NON CULTIVES (HAIES, TALUS, FOSSES), CONSTITUENT, AU SEIN DES PAYSAGES AGRICOLES, DES RESEAUX CARACTERISES PAR DES PEUPLEMENTS VEGETAUX ET ANIMAUX ORIGINAUX PAR RAPPORT A CEUX DE L'ESPACE CULTIVE. DANS LE CONTEXTE DES NOUVELLES FONCTIONS DE L'AGRICULTURE, ET COMPTE TENU DES ENGAGEMENTS INTERNATIONAUX EN FAVEUR DE LA BIODIVERSITE, IL DEVIENT URGENT DE FOURNIR AUX AMENAGEURS LES BASES SCIENTIFIQUES DU MAINTIEN DE LA DIVERSITE BIOLOGIQUE EN ZONE AGRICOLE. L'OBJECTIF DE CE TRAVAIL EST D'IDENTIFIER LES FACTEURS IMPLIQUES DANS LE CONTROLE DE LA DIVERSITE DES PEUPLEMENTS VEGETAUX ASSOCIES AUX RESEAUX D'ELEMENTS LINEAIRES NON CULTIVES, DE QUANTIFIER LEUR PERTINENCE ET DE PROPOSER UNE HIERARCHIE DE LEURS CONTRIBUTIONS RESPECTIVES. LES HYPOTHESES DE TRAVAIL SONT FORMULEES SELON UNE APPROCHE HIERARCHIQUE SPATIALE. LES 3 GROUPES DE FACTEURS DONT ON SOUHAITE TESTER L'INFLUENCE I) STRUCTURE ET ENTRETIEN DE L'ELEMENT, II) NATURE DE L'OCCUPATION DU SOL ADJACENTE, ET III) TYPE DE PAYSAGE AGRICOLE, SONT SUPPOSES AGIR A DES ECHELLES SPATIALES EMBOITEES. LES RESULTATS MONTRENT QUE LES TROIS GROUPES DE FACTEURS PRECEDENTS SONT PERTINENTS POUR EXPLIQUER LA COMPOSITION FLORISTIQUE DES PEUPLEMENTS LIGNEUX OU HERBACES DES ELEMENTS LINEAIRES NON CULTIVES DES PAYSAGES AGRICOLES. L'UTILISATION D'UNE METHODE D'ANALYSE DIRECTE DU GRADIENT (ANALYSE CANONIQUE DES CORRESPONDANCES AVEC PARTITION DE LA VARIATION SUR DEUX JEUX DE VARIABLES) A PERMIS DE MONTRER, QU'AU SEIN D'UN PAYSAGE AGRICOLE, LES PRATIQUES D'ENTRETIEN ONT UNE INFLUENCE MOINS IMPORTANTE QUE LES CARACTERISTIQUES STRUCTURALES OU LA NATURE DE L'OCCUPATION DU SOL, SUR LA DIVERSITE DES PEUPLEMENTS DE LA STRATE HERBACEE DES ELEMENTS LINEAIRES NON CULTIVES. LES RESULTATS D'ANALYSES COMBINANT PLUSIEURS SITES D'ETUDE REVELENT QUE LE FACTEUR SITE D'ETUDE EST CELUI QUI A LA MEILLEURE PERTINENCE. LA DERNIERE PARTIE DU TRAVAIL EST CONSACREE A UNE APPROCHE EXPERIMENTALE DU MAINTIEN DE LA DIVERSITE VEGETALE EN ZONE AGRICOLE. LES MODALITES DE COLONISATION D'ELEMENTS LINEAIRES NOUVELLEMENT CREES Y SONT ANALYSEES. LA DISCUSSION FINALE S'ATTACHE A MONTRER LA PERTINENCE DES RESULTATS EN TERMES DE GESTION ET D'AMENAGEMENT DES PAYSAGES AGRICOLES

Processionary Moths and Climate Change : An Update

Processionary Moths and Climate Change : An Update PDF Author: Alain Roques
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9401793409
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 440

Book Description
Because of its peculiar biology, its negative impacts on forestry, and its urticating larvae affecting human and animal health, pine processionary moth has largely been studied in many European countries during the last century. However, knowledge remained scattered and no synthesis has ever been published. Since the IPCC retained the moth as one of the two insect indicators of climate change because of its expansion with warming up, filling this gap became increasingly important. Led by INRA, this book associates 101 authors from 22 countries of Europe, Minor Asia and North Africa, combining all the concerned research fields (entomology, ecology, genetics, mathematical modelling, medical and veterinary science, pest management) in a multidisciplinary approach to understand and model the processes underlying past, present and future moth expansion and to propose adapted management methods. Besides, the major biological patterns of the related processionary species are also detailed.

Water & Heritage

Water & Heritage PDF Author: Willem Willems
Publisher:
ISBN: 9789088903861
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 434

Book Description
Water is vital for life, and its availability has been a concern for mankind throughout the ages. Its presence has always been ascertained in a variety of ways and the development of human society everywhere is connected with various forms of water management. Man also needed to manage water to find protection from its dangers and the need for that is increasing. In the coming decades, the impact of climate change is expected to intensify floods and droughts, affect groundwater resources, raise sea levels, increase pollution and enhance the frequency and magnitude of disasters. Societies around the world are challenged to adapt to these threats to ensure water security, economic prosperity and environmental and cultural sustainability. This book deals with the heritage of water management and the use that was made of water, as well as the impact of water management on heritage. An example of the former may be an ancient irrigation system in the Filipines or in the Middle East that still functions today, while the latter may reflect the importance of maintaining groundwater levels for the preservation of organic remains on archaeological sites or of wooden piles underneath standing buildings. In either case the papers in this book reflect the dynamic nature of water, and hence the equally dynamic relation between water management and heritage. This publication follows up on a Heritage and Water conference in Amsterdam, the first of its kind. Its main purpose is to credibly present the importance and value of heritage and historical experience for water and sustainable development, and vice versa, present the importance of water management for the protection of heritage. It presents evolving insights and concepts about Water and about Heritage from a variety of disciplines, policy and public perspectives illustrated with cases studies and aims to connect decision makers with experts such as engineers, archaeologists, historians, geographers, ecologist and landscape architects

Book Description
Protected areas are at the base of the most national and international conservation strategies. Due to the many unpredictable elements in ecology matters, each protected area requires a case-specific set of guidelines but a common issue is how to cope with human interaction. The management of protected areas is replete with challenges and the only way to gain understanding and achieve greater management possibilities is to exchange experiences and knowledge. Environmental managers are aware of that and together with scientists are looking for more modern and better solutions, both with respect to natural resources and human interactions in many issues regarding nature protection. This publication presents reviews and research results on protected areas management, as well as 12 case studies derived from around the world with the aim of improving management effectiveness of the protected areas.

Heritage Sites of Astronomy and Archaeoastronomy in the Context of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention

Heritage Sites of Astronomy and Archaeoastronomy in the Context of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention PDF Author: Clive L. N. Ruggles
Publisher: Ocarina Books
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 298

Book Description
This Thematic Study is a joint venture between ICOMOS, the advisory body to UNESCO on cultural sites, and the International Astronomical Union. It presents an overall vision on astronomical heritage, attempts to identify what constitutes "outstanding universal significance to humankind" in relation to astronomy, and identifies broad issues that could arise in the assessment of cultural properties relating to astronomy. This is the first Thematic Study in any field of science heritage. It is elaborated using examples of properties from around the world, including some already on the World Heritage List or national Tentative Lists. The subject matter ranges from early prehistory to modern astrophysics and space heritage, and also prominently includes dark sky issues and modern observatory sites. An e-version of the Thematic Study was published in June 2010 in time to be presented to the 2010 meeting of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee, where it was duly approved. It has been circulated officially by the WHC to all of UNESCO's National Commissions. This full-colour paperback edition with some updates, and reformatted to new ICOMOS standards, was published in 2011 and is now offered for public sale.
