Robot-Proof, revised and updated edition

Robot-Proof, revised and updated edition PDF Author: Joseph E. Aoun
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262549859
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 221

Book Description
A fresh look at a “robot-proof” education in the new age of generative AI. In 2017, Robot-Proof, the first edition, foresaw the advent of the AI economy and called for a new model of higher education designed to help human beings flourish alongside smart machines. That economy has arrived. Creative tasks that, seven years ago, seemed resistant to automation can now be performed with a simple prompt. As a result, we must now learn not only to be conversant with these technologies, but also to comprehend and deploy their outputs. In this revised and updated edition, Joseph Aoun rethinks the university’s mission for a world transformed by AI, advocating for the lifelong endeavor of a “robot-proof” education. Aoun puts forth a framework for a new curriculum, humanics, which integrates technological, data, and human literacies in an experiential setting, and he renews the call for universities to embrace lifelong learning through a social compact with government, employers, and learners themselves. Drawing on the latest developments and debates around generative AI, Robot-Proof is a blueprint for the university as a force for human reinvention in an era of technological change—an era in which we must constantly renegotiate the shifting boundaries between artificial intelligence and the capacities that remain uniquely human.

Artificial Vision and Language Processing for Robotics

Artificial Vision and Language Processing for Robotics PDF Author: Álvaro Morena Alberola
Publisher: Packt Publishing Ltd
ISBN: 1838557660
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 356

Book Description
Create end-to-end systems that can power robots with artificial vision and deep learning techniques Key FeaturesStudy ROS, the main development framework for robotics, in detailLearn all about convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, and roboticsCreate a chatbot to interact with the robotBook Description Artificial Vision and Language Processing for Robotics begins by discussing the theory behind robots. You'll compare different methods used to work with robots and explore computer vision, its algorithms, and limits. You'll then learn how to control the robot with natural language processing commands. You'll study Word2Vec and GloVe embedding techniques, non-numeric data, recurrent neural network (RNNs), and their advanced models. You'll create a simple Word2Vec model with Keras, as well as build a convolutional neural network (CNN) and improve it with data augmentation and transfer learning. You'll study the ROS and build a conversational agent to manage your robot. You'll also integrate your agent with the ROS and convert an image to text and text to speech. You'll learn to build an object recognition system using a video. By the end of this book, you'll have the skills you need to build a functional application that can integrate with a ROS to extract useful information about your environment. What you will learnExplore the ROS and build a basic robotic systemUnderstand the architecture of neural networksIdentify conversation intents with NLP techniquesLearn and use the embedding with Word2Vec and GloVeBuild a basic CNN and improve it using generative modelsUse deep learning to implement artificial intelligence(AI)and object recognitionDevelop a simple object recognition system using CNNsIntegrate AI with ROS to enable your robot to recognize objectsWho this book is for Artificial Vision and Language Processing for Robotics is for robotics engineers who want to learn how to integrate computer vision and deep learning techniques to create complete robotic systems. It will prove beneficial to you if you have working knowledge of Python and a background in deep learning. Knowledge of the ROS is a plus.

Computational Linguistics and Talking Robots

Computational Linguistics and Talking Robots PDF Author: Roland Hausser
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642224326
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 287

Book Description
The practical task of building a talking robot requires a theory of how natural language communication works. Conversely, the best way to computationally verify a theory of natural language communication is to demonstrate its functioning concretely in the form of a talking robot, the epitome of human–machine communication. To build an actual robot requires hardware that provides appropriate recognition and action interfaces, and because such hardware is hard to develop the approach in this book is theoretical: the author presents an artificial cognitive agent with language as a software system called database semantics (DBS). Because a theoretical approach does not have to deal with the technical difficulties of hardware engineering there is no reason to simplify the system – instead the software components of DBS aim at completeness of function and of data coverage in word form recognition, syntactic–semantic interpretation and inferencing, leaving the procedural implementation of elementary concepts for later. In this book the author first examines the universals of natural language and explains the Database Semantics approach. Then in Part I he examines the following natural language communication issues: using external surfaces; the cycle of natural language communication; memory structure; autonomous control; and learning. In Part II he analyzes the coding of content according to the aspects: semantic relations of structure; simultaneous amalgamation of content; graph-theoretical considerations; computing perspective in dialogue; and computing perspective in text. The book ends with a concluding chapter, a bibliography and an index. The book will be of value to researchers, graduate students and engineers in the areas of artificial intelligence and robotics, in particular those who deal with natural language processing.
