Book Description
This issue of the 'philosophy of the city' includes articles by scholars on a range of human sciences, from media theory to aesthetics and architectural theory. Philosophy, social ontology, cultural anthropology, aesthetics, digital hermeneutics, media theory, cognitive science: these are just some of the disciplines that contribute to the philosophy of the city. This variety of approaches doesn't necessarily result in a chaotic mix. Many of the included forms of discourse belong to the same episteme, which means there are many connections and overlaps. This is true both in the literatures of reference and in the ways of answering the question of what 'the city' is. Secondly, the texts don't focus on the city itself, but on those who live in, design, imagine and think about it. Thirdly, because these texts create a place where different ideas can live together. This is like a city, where ideas change, are built on and then rebuilt. This is what Wittgenstein wrote about in his Philosophical Investigations.

Book Description
Although, in social ontology, the nature of money has been extensively studied, little has been said about the nature of other entities populating the financial world, such as debts, economic exchanges, and price drops. This special issue of Rivista di Estetica gathers novel research papers dealing precisely with some ontological problems pertaining to the finance landscape. While these papers do not exhaust the issues associated with the ontology of finance, they certainly contribute to improving our comprehension of the financial world, which is crucial for both theoretical and practical reasons.

ISBN: 1350289582
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
Assembling original contributions, this book is a pioneering attempt to address the Euro-American esoteric reception and appropriation of China. Positioned between eighteenth-century's mesmerism and intersections with the modern martial arts current, the contributions specifically centre on nineteenth and early twentieth-century occult appraisals and representations. This book opens up an under-explored area of research in the field of East–West interactions and the global history of religions.

Gastrospaces
Author: Matteo Bonotti
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1040125565
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 140
Book Description
This book explores the moral and political significance of gastrospaces: the spaces where we eat. It adopts an innovative approach, combining analytic political philosophy and analytic ontology, to lay down the theoretical foundations for a multi- and interdisciplinary research agenda on the complex interconnections between food and space. Social science and humanities scholars have studied the ties between food consumption and space from multiple angles. This book sets up a different and more foundational approach, which engages with these bodies of work and integrates them into a coherent framework. While taking the reader through a theoretical journey of varying complexities, the book also illustrates the social, political, and cultural significance of gastrospaces by surveying an array of examples from diverse historical and geographical contexts. It then draws on political philosophy to show that gastrospaces are sites of justice and injustice and complements this analysis by developing an ontological model for gastrospaces that facilitates a systematic analysis of their social, political, and cultural significance. The book ends with a toolbox for the study of gastrospaces that different stakeholders may apply to their respective contexts of intervention. This book will appeal to philosophers, political scientists, food scholars, geographers, and anyone interested in the intersection between food and space. By focusing on a wide range of real-world topics related to gastrospaces, such as racist dress codes, family-friendly restaurants, speakeasies, and gendered kitchen designs, the book will also be of interest to nonacademic stakeholders such as urban planners, policymakers, designers, managers, and consumers.

Italian Futurism and the Poetry of Materiality
Author: Dalila Colucci
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004526293
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 244
Book Description
This monograph offers the first-ever, full-length analysis of the most irreverent book of Italian Futurism: L’anguria lirica, printed in 1934 on tin metal sheets, with design and poetic text by Tullio d’Albisola and illustrations by Bruno Munari. This study, which features the unabridged reproduction of the pages of the tin book, accompanied by the first English translation of the poem, aims to disentangle the complex relationship between text and image in this total artwork. It shows how the endless series of material transformations at its core – of woman into food, of love into desecrating religion, of man into machine, of poetry into matter – fostered a radical change in poetry-writing, thus breaking away from a stagnant lyrical past.
