Boundary-layer Transition Study of Several Pointed Bodies of Revolution at Supersonic Speeds

Boundary-layer Transition Study of Several Pointed Bodies of Revolution at Supersonic Speeds PDF Author: William A. Cassels
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamics, Supersonic
Languages : en
Pages : 76

Book Description
Boundary-layer transition by the sublimation and impact-pressure techniques and force tests have been performed on three Haack-Adams bodies of revolution of fineness ratios 7, 10, and 13 at zero angle of attack for free-stream Mach numbers of 2.00, 2.75, and 4.63 and a range of Reynolds numbers based on model length of 6 to 15 X 10(to the 6 power) with and without a roughness strip. The grit method of inducing turbulence was found to provide for a nearly complete turbulent flow over the models at the lower Mach numbers and higher Reynolds numbers considered in this study while the amount of trip drag was less than 8 percent of the model drag with transition fixed. A method of interpreting sublimation data was discussed and used and the results compared well with the impact-pressure results.

Elements of Transitional Boundary-Layer Flowlements

Elements of Transitional Boundary-Layer Flowlements PDF Author: Robert Edward Mayle
Publisher: Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH
ISBN: 3832545980
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 418

Book Description
Second Enhanced Edition Suitable for advanced-level courses or an independent study in fluid mechanics, this text by an expert in the field provides the basic aspects of laminar-to-turbulent flow transition in boundary layers. Logically organized into three major parts, the book covers pre- and post-transitional flow, transitional flow, and several advanced topics in periodically disturbed transitional flow. Some of the subjects covered within the book include high-frequency unsteady laminar flow, turbulent flow, natural transition, bypass transition, turbulent spot theory, turbulent spot kinematics and production, correlations for the onset and rate of transition, global and conditional averaging, transitional flow models, wakeinduced transition, multimode transition, and separated-flow transition. Containing some 202 figures (all drawn by the author), 28 tables, 12 appendices, a supplement on tensors, and an extensive bibliography, the 415 page book provides a wealth of data and information about the subject.
