Restriction and Saturation

Restriction and Saturation PDF Author: Sandra Chung
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 9780262262156
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
With this study of Maori and Chamorro, Sandra Chung and William Ladusaw make a valuable contribution to the growing literature on the formal semantic analysis of non-Indo-European languages. Their ultimate focus is on how the study of these Austronesian languages can illuminate the alternatives for semantic interpretation and their interaction with syntactic structure. Revisiting the analysis of indefiniteness in terms of restricted free variables, they claim that some varieties of indefinites are better analyzed by taking restriction and saturation to be fundamental semantic operations.Chapters examine the general topic of modes of composition (including predicate restriction and syntactic versus semantic saturation), types of indefinite determiners in Maori, and object incorporation in Chamorro (including discussions of the extra object and restriction without saturation). The authors' goal is that the two case studies they offer, and their larger focus on modes of composition, will contribute to a broader account of the interaction of form, position, and semantic interpretation.

Windup in Control Owing to Sensor Saturation

Windup in Control Owing to Sensor Saturation PDF Author: Peter Hippe
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030731332
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 111

Book Description
This brief presents methods for anti-windup control in the presence of saturating sensors, arbitrary external reference inputs, and constant or step-like disturbance inputs. It also offers techniques to assure windup prevention when both the input and the output signals are limited and this for systems with one input (SISO) and multiple inputs (MIMO). The emphasis in both is on real-world practicality rather than rigorously proven stability. Two novel solutions for anti-windup control are explored. The first approach, for SISO systems only, follows the classic design paradigm of anti-windup control: design an arbitrary linear compensator and add appropriate measures for their prevention if saturation causes stability problems. This uses a saturation indicator detecting the presence, but not the extent of saturation. The second methodology uses a compensator design that assures the desired rejection of persistent disturbances without jeopardizing closed-loop stability, and can be applied to SISO and MIMO systems alike. Containing worked examples that can be reproduced by the reader, illustrative simulations, and open problems for future research, Windup in Control Owing to Sensor Saturation will be of interest to both academics and engineers in the fields of control and process industries.

Color Theory and Modeling for Computer Graphics, Visualization, and Multimedia Applications

Color Theory and Modeling for Computer Graphics, Visualization, and Multimedia Applications PDF Author: Haim Levkowitz
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 0585284288
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 230

Book Description
Color Theory and Modeling for Computer Graphics, Visualization, and Multimedia Applications deals with color vision and visual computing. This book provides an overview of the human visual system with an emphasis on color vision and perception. The book then goes on to discuss how human color vision and perception are applied in several applications using computer-generated displays, such as computer graphics and information and data visualization. Color Theory and Modeling for Computer Graphics, Visualization, and Multimedia Applications is suitable as a secondary text for a graduate-level course on computer graphics, computer imaging, or multimedia computing and as a reference for researchers and practitioners developing computer graphics and multimedia applications.

Feedback Control

Feedback Control PDF Author: Stephen J. Dodds
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 1447166752
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1012

Book Description
This book develops the understanding and skills needed to be able to tackle original control problems. The general approach to a given control problem is to try the simplest tentative solution first and, when this is insufficient, to explain why and use a more sophisticated alternative to remedy the deficiency and achieve satisfactory performance. This pattern of working gives readers a full understanding of different controllers and teaches them to make an informed choice between traditional controllers and more advanced modern alternatives in meeting the needs of a particular plant. Attention is focused on the time domain, covering model-based linear and nonlinear forms of control together with robust control based on sliding modes and the use of state observers such as disturbance estimation. Feedback Control is self-contained, paying much attention to explanations of underlying concepts, with detailed mathematical derivations being employed where necessary. Ample use is made of diagrams to aid these conceptual explanations and the subject matter is enlivened by continual use of examples and problems derived from real control applications. Readers’ learning is further enhanced by experimenting with the fully-commented MATLAB®/Simulink® simulation environment made accessible at insert URL here to produce simulations relevant to all of the topics covered in the text. A solutions manual for use by instructors adopting the book can also be downloaded from insert URL here. Feedback Control is suitable as a main textbook for graduate and final-year undergraduate courses containing control modules; knowledge of ordinary linear differential equations, Laplace transforms, transfer functions, poles and zeros, root locus and elementary frequency response analysis, and elementary feedback control is required. It is also a useful reference source on control design methods for engineers practicing in industry and for academic control researchers.
