This study extended the Person-Environment Fit Model (Kahana, Lovegreen, Kahana, & Kahana, 2003) developed for institutionalized aged residents to examine the influence of personal and environmental features and the interaction of this "person-environment fit" on residential and life satisfaction of assisted living residents. Residents over the age of 65 were qualified to participate and a total of 29 residents from three assisted living facilities comprised the sample of this study. The researcher interviewed residents with a 23-item questionnaire and coded and analyzed the responses using SPSS 16 which is a statistical software package. The findings show that personality and personal choice significantly correlate with psychological satisfaction with the facility and that personal preferences have significant association with residential satisfaction. Psychological factors other than physical preferences, are significantly related with life satisfaction. The study suggests that environmental features which meet psychological preferences of the residents are most likely to improve their residential and life satisfaction.
