Thinking Through Fairbairn

Thinking Through Fairbairn PDF Author: Graham S. Clarke
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 0429840705
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 236

Book Description
Thinking through Fairbairn offers parallel perspectives on Fairbairn's work. It explores an extended interpretation of his 'psychology of dynamic structure' and applies that model to a number of different areas. Fairbairn's Scottish origins are explored through his relationship with the work of Ian Suttie and Edward Glover. A new extended object relations model of phantasy and inner reality that reflects Fairbairn's approach as represented by his contribution to the Controversial Discussions is also developed. In cooperation with Paul Finnegan, this version of Fairbairn's model is applied to an understanding of multiple personality disorder or dissociative identity disorder. This model is combined with Fairbairn's theory of art to provide an understanding of some 'puzzle' films based in trauma and dissociation. Fairbairn's theory is presented here as a synthesis of classical and relational approaches, and his appropriation by relational theorists as a precursor to exclusively relational approaches challenged.

Marion Milner

Marion Milner PDF Author: Alberto Stefana
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1003823033
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 95

Book Description
This focused and thorough book by Alberto Stefana and Alessio Gamba delves into Marion Milner’s contribution to psychoanalytic clinical theory and technique. The authors offer an overview of Milner’s work as a psychoanalyst, writer, and gifted painter. They bring to light how each of her clinical concepts and theorisations have been shaped by predecessors and, in turn, have inspired subsequent analysts. The importance of imaginative scenarios for both patient and therapist within the analytic context is particularly emphasised. The authors conclude by focusing on the retained clinical relevance of Milner’s contribution for contemporary psychoanalysis. Marion Miler: A Contemporary Introduction is essential for students of psychoanalysis, as well as academics and psychoanalytic practitioners interested in the clinical-theoretical work of this pioneer in psychoanalysis.

The Spiritual Life of Children

The Spiritual Life of Children PDF Author: Robert Coles
Publisher: HMH
ISBN: 0547524641
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 399

Book Description
A look at faith through the voices of children from varied religious backgrounds, by the Pulitzer-winning author of The Moral Intelligence of Children. A New York Times Notable Book What do children think about when they consider God, Heaven and Hell, the value of life in the here and now, and the inevitability of death? Child psychiatrist, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, and Harvard professor Robert Coles spent thirty years interviewing hundreds of children—from South America and Europe to Africa and the Middle East—who are developing concepts of faith even as they struggle to understand its contradictions. Be they Catholic or Protestant, Jewish children from Boston, Pakistani children in London, agnostics, Native Americans, or young Christians in the American South, they offer honest, enlightening and sometimes startling ideas of a spiritual existence. A Hopi girl who knows for a fact that we are resurrected as birds; an African American child who believes God exists as a hurricane to “blow away” drug dealers; a young Christian who needs his faith to cope with the death of his sister, lest she be just “a big heartache to us till the day we die”; and a Tennessee child who rationalizes his belief by admitting that “if there's no God, that's all there is, ashes.” The Spiritual Life of Children is “a remarkable book. The generosity of vision that characterizes Dr. Coles's enterprise enables him to create a climate where words of great beauty and truthfulness can be spoken.” —The New York Times
