Representation of Lie Groups and Related Topics

Representation of Lie Groups and Related Topics PDF Author: Anatoliĭ Moiseevich Vershik
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9782881246784
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 576

Book Description
Eight papers provide mature readers with careful review of progress (through about 1983) toward the creation of a theory of the representations of infinite-dimensional Lie groups and algebras, and of some related topics. Recent developments in physics have provided major impetus for the development of such a theory, and the volume will be of special interest to mathematical physicists (quantum field theorists). Translated from the Russian edition of unstated date, and beautifully produced (which--at the price--it should be!). Book club price, $118. Algebras and Representation Theory

Algebras and Representation Theory PDF Author: Karin Erdmann
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319919989
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
This carefully written textbook provides an accessible introduction to the representation theory of algebras, including representations of quivers. The book starts with basic topics on algebras and modules, covering fundamental results such as the Jordan-Hölder theorem on composition series, the Artin-Wedderburn theorem on the structure of semisimple algebras and the Krull-Schmidt theorem on indecomposable modules. The authors then go on to study representations of quivers in detail, leading to a complete proof of Gabriel's celebrated theorem characterizing the representation type of quivers in terms of Dynkin diagrams. Requiring only introductory courses on linear algebra and groups, rings and fields, this textbook is aimed at undergraduate students. With numerous examples illustrating abstract concepts, and including more than 200 exercises (with solutions to about a third of them), the book provides an example-driven introduction suitable for self-study and use alongside lecture courses.

Infinite-Dimensional Representations of 2-Groups

Infinite-Dimensional Representations of 2-Groups PDF Author: John C. Baez
Publisher: American Mathematical Soc.
ISBN: 0821872842
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 133

Book Description
Just as groups can have representations on vector spaces, 2-groups have representations on 2-vector spaces, but Lie 2-groups typically have few representations on the finite-dimensional 2-vector spaces introduced by Kapranov and Voevodsky. Therefore, Crane, Sheppeard, and Yetter introduced certain infinite-dimensional 2-vector spaces, called measurable categories, to study infinite-dimensional representations of certain Lie 2-groups, and German and North American mathematicians continue that work here. After introductory matters, they cover representations of 2-groups, and measurable categories, representations on measurable categories. There is no index. Algebraic Methods in Operator Theory

Algebraic Methods in Operator Theory PDF Author: Raul E. Curto
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461202558
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 360

Book Description
The theory of operators stands at the intersection of the frontiers of modern analysis and its classical counterparts; of algebra and quantum mechanics; of spectral theory and partial differential equations; of the modern global approach to topology and geometry; of representation theory and harmonic analysis; and of dynamical systems and mathematical physics. The present collection of papers represents contributions to a conference, and they have been carefully selected with a view to bridging different but related areas of mathematics which have only recently displayed an unexpected network of interconnections, as well as new and exciting cross-fertilizations. Our unify ing theme is the algebraic view and approach to the study of operators and their applications. The complementarity between the diversity of topics on the one hand and the unity of ideas on the other has been stressed. Some of the longer contributions represent material from lectures (in expanded form and with proofs for the most part). However, the shorter papers, as well as the longer ones, are an integral part of the picture; they have all been carefully refereed and revised with a view to a unity of purpose, timeliness, readability, and broad appeal. Developments and Retrospectives in Lie Theory

Developments and Retrospectives in Lie Theory PDF Author: Geoffrey Mason
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319099345
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 274

Book Description
The Lie Theory Workshop, founded by Joe Wolf (UC, Berkeley), has been running for over two decades. At the beginning, the top universities in California and Utah hosted the meetings, which continue to run on a quarterly basis. Experts in representation theory/Lie theory from various parts of the US, Europe, Asia (China, Japan, Singapore, Russia), Canada, and South and Central America were routinely invited to give talks at these meetings. Nowadays, the workshops are also hosted at universities in Louisiana, Virginia, and Oklahoma. These Lie theory workshops have been sponsored by the NSF, noting the talks have been seminal in describing new perspectives in the field covering broad areas of current research. The contributors have all participated in these Lie theory workshops and include in this volume expository articles which will cover representation theory from the algebraic, geometric, analytic, and topological perspectives with also important connections to math physics. These survey articles, review and update the prominent seminal series of workshops in representation/Lie theory mentioned above, and reflects the widespread influence of those workshops in such areas as harmonic analysis, representation theory, differential geometry, algebraic geometry, number theory, and mathematical physics. Many of the contributors have had prominent roles in both the classical and modern developments of Lie theory and its applications.
