Book Description
The Trans-Asian Railway (TAR) project is part of the integrated Asian Land Transport Infrastructure Development (ALTID project. The routes for the projected North-South corridor of TAR would commence at Helsinki (Finland) and end at the port of Bandar Abbas on the Southern coast of Iran. The sections currently under construction are located in Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Four different track gauges have to be inter-connected in the TAR. Other problem areas include:- delays at border crossings; the enhancement of traffic information and forecasting systems; the need for co-operation in operational planning and tariff structure; the importance of recommended minimum technical standards.
