Statistical Matching

Statistical Matching PDF Author: Marcello D'Orazio
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470023546
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 268

Book Description
There is more statistical data produced in today’s modern society than ever before. This data is analysed and cross-referenced for innumerable reasons. However, many data sets have no shared element and are harder to combine and therefore obtain any meaningful inference from. Statistical matching allows just that; it is the art of combining information from different sources (particularly sample surveys) that contain no common unit. In response to modern influxes of data, it is an area of rapidly growing interest and complexity. Statistical Matching: Theory and Practice introduces the basics of statistical matching, before going on to offer a detailed, up-to-date overview of the methods used and an examination of their practical applications. Presents a unified framework for both theoretical and practical aspects of statistical matching. Provides a detailed description covering all the steps needed to perform statistical matching. Contains a critical overview of the available statistical matching methods. Discusses all the major issues in detail, such as the Conditional Independence Assumption and the assessment of uncertainty. Includes numerous examples and applications, enabling the reader to apply the methods in their own work. Features an appendix detailing algorithms written in the R language. Statistical Matching: Theory and Practice presents a comprehensive exploration of an increasingly important area. Ideal for researchers in national statistics institutes and applied statisticians, it will also prove to be an invaluable text for scientists and researchers from all disciplines engaged in the multivariate analysis of data collected from different sources.

Principles and Practices for a Federal Statistical Agency

Principles and Practices for a Federal Statistical Agency PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309073146
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 73

Book Description
Since 1992, the Committee on National Statistics (CNSTAT) has produced a book on principles and practices for a federal statistical agency, updating the document every 4 years to provide a current edition to newly appointed cabinet secretaries at the beginning of each presidential administration. This second edition presents and comments on three basic principles that statistical agencies must embody in order to carry out their mission fully: (1) They must produce objective data that are relevant to policy issues, (2) they must achieve and maintain credibility among data users, and (3) they must achieve and maintain trust among data providers. The book also discusses 11 important practices that are means for statistical agencies to live up to the four principles. These practices include a commitment to quality and professional practice and an active program of methodological and substantive research.

Computer Science and Statistics: Proceedings of the 13th Symposium on the Interface

Computer Science and Statistics: Proceedings of the 13th Symposium on the Interface PDF Author: W. F. Eddy
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461394643
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 375

Book Description
The 13th Symposium on the Interface continued this series after a one year pause. The objective of these symposia is to provide a forum for the interchange of ideas of common concern to computer scientists and statisticians. The sessions of the 13th Symposium were held in the Pittsburgh Hilton Hotel, Gateway Center, Pittsburgh. Following established custom the 13th Symposium had organized workshops on various topics of interest to participants. The workshop format allowed the invited speakers to present their material variously as formal talks, tutorial sessions and open discussion. The Symposium schedule was also the customary one. Registration opened in late afternoon of March 11, 1981 and continued during the opening mixer held that evening: The formal opening of the Symposium was on the morning of March 12. The opening remarks were followed by Bradley Efron's address "Statistical Theory and the Computer." The rest of the daily schedule was three concurrent workshops in the morning and three in the afternoon with contributed poster sessions during the noon break. Additionally there were several commercial displays and guided tours of Carnegie-Mellon University's Computer Center, Computer Science research facilities, and Robotics Institute.
