Book Description
Excerpt from Report of the Committee to Whom Was Referred So Much of the Message of the President of the United States: At the Commencement of the Session, as Relates to the Spirit and Manner in Which the War Has Been Waged by the Enemy; July 31, 1813 I wrote Mr. Peck and requested him to forward me a letter of introduction to some one here, and also a protection shewing that I am an American. As it is possible that he may not get my letter, you will notice my request and pay that attention which it deserves. I mentioned in my letter to Mr. Peck, that any funds which I received here would be returned on applica tion, as my expenditures will, through an economical principle, be as small as possible. I indulge the lmpe that you will conform to my wishes in this particular, and also inform Mr. Kelly of our imprisonment here, and request his influence in facilitating our exchange, with any other service.
