Integrable Systems

Integrable Systems PDF Author: V. Babelon
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461203155
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 368

Book Description
This book constitutes the proceedings of the International Conference on Integrable Systems in memory of J.-L. Verdier. It was held on July 1-5, 1991 at the Centre International de Recherches Mathematiques (C.I.R.M.) at Luminy, near Marseille (France). This collection of articles, covering many aspects of the theory of integrable Hamiltonian systems, both finite and infinite-dimensional, with an emphasis on the algebro-geometric meth ods, is published here as a tribute to Verdier who had planned this confer ence before his death in 1989 and whose active involvement with this topic brought integrable systems to the fore as a subject for active research in France. The death of Verdier and his wife on August 25, 1989, in a car accident near their country house, was a shock to all of us who were acquainted with them, and was very deeply felt in the mathematics community. We knew of no better way to honor Verdier's memory than to proceed with both the School on Integrable Systems at the C.I.M.P.A. (Centre International de Mathematiques Pures et Appliquees in Nice), and the Conference on the same theme that was to follow it, as he himself had planned them.

Italian Mathematics Between the Two World Wars

Italian Mathematics Between the Two World Wars PDF Author: Angelo Guerraggio
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3764375124
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 306

Book Description
This book describes Italian mathematics in the period between the two World Wars. It analyzes the development by focusing on both the interior and the external influences. Italian mathematics in that period was shaped by a colorful array of strong personalities who concentrated their efforts on a select number of fields and won international recognition and respect in an incredibly short time. Consequently, Italy was considered a third mathematical power after France and Germany.

Distribution of Sequences

Distribution of Sequences PDF Author: Oto Strauch
Publisher: Peter Lang Pub Incorporated
ISBN: 9783631540138
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 543

Book Description
The monograph covers material scattered throughout books and journals and focuses on the distribution properties of sequences which may be expressed in terms of distribution function, upper and lower distribution function, the discrepancy, diaphony, dispersion etc. The individual character of sequences reflected in their distribution properties may be an object of study from various points of view, and as such they are often the primary goal of investigation. In that case the studied properties are caught in separate results and are consequently accessible in a displayed form. On the other hand, the various distribution properties of sequences play only a subsidiary role in proofs and thus remain often hidden and are not manifested in a visible form. The enormous wealth of information contained in both cases may be of value not only to those working directly in the field, but also to those working in related branches of number theory, combinatorics, real or numerical analysis in the process of finding sequence possessing the required properties. Last, but not least browsing throughout the book may provide the impetus for prospective further research. This is what we hope may address a wide class of working mathematicians.

Book Description
This book offers insights into the history of mathematics education, covering both the current state of the art of research and the methodology of the field. History of mathematics education is treated in the book as a part of social history. This book grew out of the presentations delivered at the International Congress on Mathematics Education in Hamburg. Modern development and growing internationalization of mathematics education made it clear that many urgent questions benefit from a historical approach. The chapters present viewpoints from the following countries: Belgium, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Germany, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia,Spain and Sweden. Each chapter represents significant directions of historical studies.
