Recent Progress in General Topology II

Recent Progress in General Topology II PDF Author: M. Husek
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0444509801
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 652

Book Description
The book presents surveys describing recent developments in most of the primary subfields of General Topology and its applications to Algebra and Analysis during the last decade. It follows freely the previous edition (North Holland, 1992), Open Problems in Topology (North Holland, 1990) and Handbook of Set-Theoretic Topology (North Holland, 1984). The book was prepared in connection with the Prague Topological Symposium, held in 2001. During the last 10 years the focus in General Topology changed and therefore the selection of topics differs slightly from those chosen in 1992. The following areas experienced significant developments: Topological Groups, Function Spaces, Dimension Theory, Hyperspaces, Selections, Geometric Topology (including Infinite-Dimensional Topology and the Geometry of Banach Spaces). Of course, not every important topic could be included in this book. Except surveys, the book contains several historical essays written by such eminent topologists as: R.D. Anderson, W.W. Comfort, M. Henriksen, S. Mardeŝić, J. Nagata, M.E. Rudin, J.M. Smirnov (several reminiscences of L. Vietoris are added). In addition to extensive author and subject indexes, a list of all problems and questions posed in this book are added. List of all authors of surveys: A. Arhangel'skii, J. Baker and K. Kunen, H. Bennett and D. Lutzer, J. Dijkstra and J. van Mill, A. Dow, E. Glasner, G. Godefroy, G. Gruenhage, N. Hindman and D. Strauss, L. Hola and J. Pelant, K. Kawamura, H.-P. Kuenzi, W. Marciszewski, K. Martin and M. Mislove and M. Reed, R. Pol and H. Torunczyk, D. Repovs and P. Semenov, D. Shakhmatov, S. Solecki, M. Tkachenko.

Data-driven Models in Inverse Problems

Data-driven Models in Inverse Problems PDF Author: Tatiana A. Bubba
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3111251233
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 508

Book Description
Advances in learning-based methods are revolutionizing several fields in applied mathematics, including inverse problems, resulting in a major paradigm shift towards data-driven approaches. This volume, which is inspired by this cutting-edge area of research, brings together contributors from the inverse problem community and shows how to successfully combine model- and data-driven approaches to gain insight into practical and theoretical issues.

Progress in Analysis and Its Applications

Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 668

Book Description
The International Society for Analysis, its Applications and Computation (ISAAC) has held its international congresses biennially since 1997. This proceedings volume reports on the progress in analysis, applications and computation in recent years as covered and discussed at the 7th ISAAC Congress. This volume includes papers on partial differential equations, function spaces, operator theory, integral transforms and equations, potential theory, complex analysis and generalizations, stochastic analysis, inverse problems, homogenization, continuum mechanics, mathematical biology and medicine. With over 500 participants from almost 60 countries attending the congress, the book comprises a broad selection of contributions in different topics.

Set-Theoretic Methods in Control

Set-Theoretic Methods in Control PDF Author: Franco Blanchini
Publisher: Birkhäuser
ISBN: 3319179330
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 640

Book Description
The second edition of this monograph describes the set-theoretic approach for the control and analysis of dynamic systems, both from a theoretical and practical standpoint. This approach is linked to fundamental control problems, such as Lyapunov stability analysis and stabilization, optimal control, control under constraints, persistent disturbance rejection, and uncertain systems analysis and synthesis. Completely self-contained, this book provides a solid foundation of mathematical techniques and applications, extensive references to the relevant literature, and numerous avenues for further theoretical study. All the material from the first edition has been updated to reflect the most recent developments in the field, and a new chapter on switching systems has been added. Each chapter contains examples, case studies, and exercises to allow for a better understanding of theoretical concepts by practical application. The mathematical language is kept to the minimum level necessary for the adequate formulation and statement of the main concepts, yet allowing for a detailed exposition of the numerical algorithms for the solution of the proposed problems. Set-Theoretic Methods in Control will appeal to both researchers and practitioners in control engineering and applied mathematics. It is also well-suited as a textbook for graduate students in these areas. Praise for the First Edition "This is an excellent book, full of new ideas and collecting a lot of diverse material related to set-theoretic methods. It can be recommended to a wide control community audience." - B. T. Polyak, Mathematical Reviews "This book is an outstanding monograph of a recent research trend in control. It reflects the vast experience of the authors as well as their noticeable contributions to the development of this field...[It] is highly recommended to PhD students and researchers working in control engineering or applied mathematics. The material can also be used for graduate courses in these areas." - Octavian Pastravanu, Zentralblatt MATH

Young Measures on Topological Spaces

Young Measures on Topological Spaces PDF Author: Charles Castaing
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402019645
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 327

Book Description
Young measures are now a widely used tool in the Calculus of Variations, in Control Theory, in Probability Theory and other fields. They are known under different names such as "relaxed controls," "fuzzy random variables" and many other names. This monograph provides a unified presentation of the theory, along with new results and applications in various fields. It can serve as a reference on the subject. Young measures are presented in a general setting which includes finite and for the first time infinite dimensional spaces: the fields of applications of Young measures (Control Theory, Calculus of Variations, Probability Theory...) are often concerned with problems in infinite dimensional settings. The theory of Young measures is now well understood in a finite dimensional setting, but open problems remain in the infinite dimensional case. We provide several new results in the general frame, which are new even in the finite dimensional setting, such as characterizations of convergence in measure of Young measures (Chapter 3) and compactness criteria (Chapter 4).These results are established under a different form (and with less details and developments) in recent papers by the same authors. We also provide new applications to Visintin and Reshetnyak type theorems (Chapters 6 and 8), existence of solutions to differential inclusions (Chapter 7), dynamical programming (Chapter 8) and the Central Limit Theorem in locally convex spaces (Chapter 9).

Integral, Probability, and Fractal Measures

Integral, Probability, and Fractal Measures PDF Author: Gerald A. Edgar
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475729588
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 292

Book Description
Providing the mathematical background required for the study of fractal topics, this book deals with integration in the modern sense, together with mathematical probability. The emphasis is on the particular results that aid the discussion of fractals, and follows Edgars Measure, Topology, and Fractal Geometry. With exercises throughout, this is and ideal text for beginning graduate students both in the classroom and for self-study.
