Book Description
Welcome to the world of adventure. This book is not a lexicon for would-be cruisers. It is a book with which to relax as you read the story of the fulfillment of one couple's dream to sail their own boat across the oceans of the world. If you love the sea, are afraid of it, or wonder whatever possesses people to set out in a small boat, read on and enjoy. This book is for dreamers. Those who hang over harbour walls looking at the boats below; or those, some of whom we would meet on our journeys, who are landlocked yet, for some mystical reason, dream of the sea. I hope this book will be savoured during the quiet times of many busy lives. For not only is it a book of our discovery of this magical planet and the people who, by chance, make it their home, but it is also a voyage of discovery of ourselves. Through the isolation and challenges of ocean passage making, we learnt about ourselves and each other, which in itself is a priceless reward.

Wanderings and Sojourns - on Five Continents and Three Oceans - Book 1 PDF Author: Jim Scott
Publisher: FriesenPress
ISBN: 1770673199
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
In this, the first of the Wanderings and Sojourns series, the reader is taken on a variety of journeys spanning all the continents of the world except Antarctica and Australasia. They'll travel by sea and land through Caribbean islands and sub-Saharan savannah, South American mountain ranges and rivers of Asia, North African markets and verdant English valleys, all the while living the adventures and experiences that gave rise to the unique philosophies shared within these pages. Interspersed between these true stories are works of lyrical verse; songs as varied as the wanderings and sojourns from which they were born. Themes vary from sharing of wisdom among travelers to respect for one's rifle during insurgent war, transition of a boy into manhood or the last portage two adventurers will ever share. The world beyond convention is the canvas upon which these unusual stories and songs are painted, the pallet comprises an entire spectra from shipwreck to war, spirituality to atavism, Aboriginals to ghosts, and the resulting pictures provide a fascinating view of the world as seen through unusual windows by someone who doesn't quite conform to the norms of society....

Plastic Ocean

Plastic Ocean PDF Author: Charles Moore
Publisher: Penguin
ISBN: 1101517786
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 368

Book Description
The researcher who discovered the Great Pacific Garbage Patch—and remains one of today's key advocates for plastic pollution awareness—inspires a fundamental rethinking of the modern Plastic Age. In 1997, environmentalist Charles Moore discovered the world's largest collection of floating trash—the Great Pacific Garbage Patch ("GPGP")—while sailing from Hawaii to California. Moore was shocked by the level of pollution that he saw. And in the last 20 years, it's only gotten worse—a 2018 study has found that the vast dump of plastic waste swirling in the Pacific Ocean is now bigger than France, Germany, and Spain combined—far larger than previously feared. In Plastic Ocean, Moore recounts his ominous findings and unveils the secret life of plastics. From milk jugs and abandoned fishing gear to polymer molecules small enough to penetrate human skin and be unknowingly inhaled, plastic is now suspected of contributing to a host of ailments, including infertility, autism, thyroid dysfunction, and certain cancers. An urgent call to action, Plastic Ocean's sobering revalations have been embraced by activists, concerned parents, and anyone alarmed by the deadly impact and implications of this man-made environmental catastrophe.

ISBN: 162787562X
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 373

Book Description
Many people intend to leave footprints in the sands of time to enable those who follow to have some idea from whence they came. But then time passes, and oftentimes this kind of extended journal remains unwritten. Eugene Friesen wrote Reflections at Eventide because he wanted his children and his children’s children to follow the unexpected twists and turns his life has taken, starting with a very provincial and conservative rural background. He shares some of the turning points, often lonely and frightening, that result in what seems like cataclysmic changes in his world view. Leta, his wife of sixty-two years, was his major anchor. She had a powerful impact on his life and he chose a most unpredictable path leading to a journey he could never have anticipated.

Impressions and Reflections

Impressions and Reflections PDF Author: Peter Chapel

Book Description
My song lyrics were a consequence of being a captive in my automobile twice a month from 1978 to 1981 while driving eight hours at a stretch, mostly at night. This opportunity to reminisce made me recall incidents and people who, for one reason or another, left an indelible impression on my mind. With a small cassette tape recorder by my side, I decided one day to express my thoughts, memories, and feelings. As the words formed phrases and sentences they fell into a rhythm and evolved into melodies that became my form of self-expression for about two years. I never tried, consciously, to be poetic or profound.Writing in the first person singular seemed the easiest way to go. Taking advantage of poetic license it worked well even when I, personally, had the experience only as an observer.Because I have had no musical training I depended on a friend to transcribe the songs from tape to lead sheet form and piano accompaniment.Where I used real names, the songs were intended to be a tribute to the persons. Where a fictitious name was used, it was no less a tribute.
