Le LEAN Manufacturing est une méthode de management apparut au Japon après la seconde guerre mondiale. D'abord cantonnée à l'industrie automobile nippone, ses méthodes s'exporteront peu à peu à l'étranger et dans d'autres domaines industrielles. Devenue une référence pour son efficacité dans l'industrie automobile, le LEAN Manufacturing se caractérise par le ciblage des gaspillages (Mudas), qui sont définis sous 8 formes différentes : Surproduction, Temps d'attente, Transport et Manutention, Usinages inutiles ou incorrects, Stocks Excédentaires, Gestes Inutiles, Production de pièces défectueuses et la Créativité inexploitée. Pour répondre à ces problématiques, des outils spécifiques existent et ont fait leur preuve pour réduire la quantité de chaque gaspillage. Cette thèse a pour objectif de voir dans quelle mesure sont utilisés ces outils dans l'industrie pharmaceutique, ainsi que leur efficacité. Au cours de cette revue, chaque chapitre est consacré à un type de gaspillage. Les exemples évoqués, issus de la littérature, permettent de définir ces gaspillages, d'illustrer les problématiques associées, de visualiser les solutions amenées par ces outils, et de quantifier les résultats associés en comparant les performances avant et après mise en place d'un outil.
